I'm concerned because all these pics are head on and it appears to be a 1-2ft thick facade (like the New York facades at the studio) hoping to trick the eye that it is a three dimensional building.

I hope this is not the case.

not sure what you mean. The building is an actual building that houses a restaurant....

No, he just means that the facade doesn't have a lot of dimension to it. From the head on shots, there doesn't look to be a lot of depth to it; everything kind of seems to be on plane with each other like the doors and windows aren't set back or forward from the wall. Its strictly an appearence thing and the difference of a building looking flat like a painting or looking 3 dimensional with depth and texture to it. (Does that even make sense?)

I do think that once the area is finished and the doors and balcony railings are added and the wall is taken down to reveal the first floor and entrance area, the building will look even better and have a better sense of depth and detail to it.

I agree. It looks very "fake" right now. Like a flat screen painting or set piece as well to me. I hope too that once it's done and in person it gains some visual "depth."

Ok. I get you guys. Though I actually like the look now. I think while the building doesn't appear to have too much depth, it definitely gives the whole courtyard depth. And I love the color palet for it. It definitely does give it a "painting" look, but more like a Kinkade look as if the building is capturing the light or reflecting a sunset or something.

I think it will help a great deal when the courtyard walls are down and you can see the covered seating area - should give some real depth. There are also still some exterior details to be added to the main building facade.

Oh, no doubt. Ever since Italy opened in '82, its been by far the most 'unfinished' looking pavilion. Apart from giving World Showcase and Epcot a long overdue pizzeria, It finally closes off the back portion of the pavilion to give it a better sense of being complete and immersive.

Yep. Looking at the concept art, the building is still missing a number of details, from statues to railings to lighting to awnings and signs over the windows. If they follow through on those design elements, the building will definitely appear less 'flat' looking.

I never really got a sense of how big the building was until that picture from across the lagoon was posted. It really does fill in that empty space at the back of the pavilion.

The restaurant seems to make the existing buildings seem much larger somehow as well. I think once the statues, awnings, and greenery are added, as shown in the concept art, the place will have much more dimension. Good job, Epcot!

Does anyone know what happened or is happening with the fountain back there? It was a really nice fountain/statue, so I'm hoping they can keep it around somewhere.

Still there in the same spot. The new outdoor seating area for Via Napoli will be located behind the fountain.

I was wondering the same thing, I loved the fountain too. Its probably been ripped out I have a feeling, cause they are adding outside seating. Anyone know?

This new Pizzeria looks great!!
Sorry if this has already been said,It's almost exactly the same as in the artwork, but I think it's a bit different on one side...

Look:

Via-Napoli_Full_11283.jpg

On the right side (the hidden one) it seems to be different, because when I got to see the pizzeria personally, I didn't see the gates.....
But I couldn't see it clearly because of the walls.

The forced perpective looks busted now. I'm sure it'll look better once they're done. That "second floor" looks TINAY compared to the other buildings around it.

That art work is reassuring because it shows the 2nd floor has depth:

What concerned me was that from the head on shots, like those above, make it look like a thin movie set facade with nothing behind it, like this:

To anyone who has seen it in person, this is not the case it it?

Just some random BEFORE pics I found on google:

Looks like it was just trees

I wish they had saved some of those Italian Cyprus trees. I like the look of them, but I didn't see any behind the building like in the concept art. They are pretty quick growing trees though, so maybe they're there and I just can't see them. In case somebody doesn't know what I'm talking about, here's a pic...http://www.vacations-abroad.com/photos/images/PICT0992.jpg

Either way, I love what they've done with the place.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know if Via Napoli will accept the dining plan?

Hopefully not! If it does, we all know where the quality of the food will end up.

I don't believe there has been any information on that yet.
