We are taking a long weekend trip to las Vegas in June. Anyone have any advice on where to stay and play? We are not really interested in casino's. We are going for a family member's anniversery party. And, we are going to see "O". Anything else? Places to eat?

Of all the hotels on the strip...my favorite is the Venetian...but it's a little pricey. (all of the rooms are suites)

The the "Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas" written by the same guy/group that writes the "Unofficial Guide to WDW."

Even if you are not interested in gambling, but if you are interested in the free shows at each hotel/casino, it's worth it to stay on The Strip. It's also worth it for the atmosphere.

I´ve been to Vegas twice and I don´t gamble... I love the shows and the hotels. There is a lot to see and a lot to walk!
Ô is awesome! I have also seen Siegfried and Roy (a month before the accident :( ) and Celine Dion. Make sure you check which other shows are there to see, or which other singer/artist is having presentations that you can catch.
My brother stayed at the Paris hotel and we stayed at the Aladdin. They are well located (specially if you are going to see Ô and to watch the Fountains at the Bellagio) and they are both very pretty. The Venetian is very elegant too, but as Brian said, it is one of the most expensive ones.
Have fun!

As far as places to eat I recommend Rio's Carnival World Buffet. (What's Vegas without the Buffets). Anyhow, this buffet is an experience in itself. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. They offer from pizza to sushi, crap legs to burgers. The Variety is there and there's something for everyone.

If you want an honest opinon by people who visit Vegas often, I suggest you check out www.cheapovegas.com. My BF turned me onto their site and I've been a fan ever since. They review every, and I do mean EVERY casino and hotel in Vegas. Even the Western casino, which is officially the scariest, scuzziest, casino in Vegas. I stopped by. They have cement floors. The better to hose the blood off the floor. They give a full description of what games each offers, how much to play, the atmosphere, etc. They even cover the local casinos off strip.

For rates, we usually use www.travelworm.com.

Are you going with kids? Because I think that makes a world of difference where you stay. If you're going to be with kids, you'll probably want to stay at Ex Calibur, Luxor, Circus Circus, Stratosphere, etc. There are more things for the children to do there. If no kids then definitely try for one of the really nice hotels. You can totally find deals if you're only staying for a long weekend. I would suggest Paris, it's really nice and not as crowded as some of the others.

I'm much like Maria, I don't like to gamble, so I go to the shows instead. Mystere at TI is fantastic. I like it better than La Nouba. I would also suggest Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo. He puts on a great show that's really funny and child friendly. If you like musical Mama Mia at Mandalay Bay is really fun. It's light hearted and just as good as it is in the city!

I hope you have a great trip!

I don't suggest you eat here...Don't eat anyplace where the crap has legs!!! :hurl:

(JK...I know it was a Freudian slip)

A decent breakfast buffet is at Treasure Island.

We are taking our 6yr old. I think we have decided to go to "O" and to Mystere'. The Luxor looks really cool! I would like to take my aunt and uncle out to dinner somewhere for an anniversery gift. Anyone know of any really good fine dining?

The Hoover Dam is a great to see, but it isn't a 20 minute excursion. It's a several hour side trip, and you can make it an almost all day tour if your want. Problem is that you would need to rent a car to get there. There are tours that leave from some if the hotels, but you have to be able to dedicate a whole day for it, and get up early to catch the bus.

If you do have a car, then you can also head to the Western part of town to go to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Here's a link: http://www.redrockcanyon.blm.gov/

AWESOME at sunrise and sunset! Since you are going in June, be careful about the heat (in general). Take bottled water with you.

Have fun!

Get a map of The Strip first and try staying at a hotel in the 'newer area'. Luxor is cool to look at, but it is 'far' from a lot of the most popular ones, specially when you decide to walk the strip. I would say staying around Ceasars, Paris, Aladdin, Bellagio, and Montecarlo and MGM is fine, but not Stratosphere or Luxor because they are too far. The Venetian is beautiful to tour and also hosts the wax museum.

For your aunt and uncle´s anniversary, try getting a reservation at the Paris hotel at the restaurant inside their Eiffel Tower, or even sitting at the one downstairs on the street - they will feel like if they were in Paris and can watch the fountain show at The Bellagio from any of them.

What is that?

Zumanity is one of the Cirque du Soleil´s shows. If I recall correctly, it´s an erotic one, so I am not sure if it would be proper for a family vacation. ;)

Yes, it's extemely erotic with almost no clothing throughout the entire show.

Since you're going with the family, avoid Thunder From Under :lookaroun

Great activity for your 6 year old is the Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef. It's new (warning: prepare yourself to walk a lot). It offers a petting area for the kids and a walk-through tunnel through the aquarium, which gives you the feeling of being in the deep sea...The kids love it!
