valet tipping?

so you tip the valet for the car when you drop off and come get your car? Both times, or only one of the two times? I never know what is customary?

I guess it can be tough because the person taking your car may not be the person bringing it back. But, since Valet parking is expensive it can get a little annoying to tip. I would probably only tip the person who brings me my car, since I would assume they pool their tips anyway.

Unfortunately, I believe you are supposed to tip the valet who takes your car as well as the one who retrieves it. A good tip would be $1-$2, so it isn't so bad. But I would tip both(if only for your car's sake!)

Yeah, funny you should ask. Whenever I hit a restaurant and valet, I always tip after they return the car. I never tip them before. I always assumed that was standard. But for some reason I got to WDW and that "standard" went out the door and I wound up tipping the person who took the car and the person who brought it. Finally I saved myself some money by parking the car myself and just walking to the hotel. Lord knows I needed those extra dollars to pay for my pigoutfest in the parks.

We just got back from WDW and we used valet parking at the WL. (we only moved it twice the entire time)
We tipped $1 both parking & bringing the car around. The AC was running & the window was open to push out the hot air. It was ready on time & wasn't scratched or dented. And the valet held the door for both my daughters and myself.

I'd suggest nothing less than $2/$2 especially if its your own vehicle and not a rental.

Just put yourself in the shoes of the person parking it and then finding it and bringing it around. If you received no tip to park, where would you stick their car and how would you drive it?

Depending on the location, valets do a TON of running and you're their income.

In NYC/Boston, $5/$5 easily.

I've always tipped both ways, coming and going.

It's never my car, always a rental - great rates with National via mousesavers!

I knew they didn't pool tips, because sometimes we call down from the room to let them know we need the car, and they have it ready and waiting on the side - but if we are slow to get down to the car, we have to get the key from the valet stand - when this happens, the valet stand attendent has a nice way of saying "Cast Member" brought your car around today, here is the envelope with your keys, and this is intended to elicit a tip, and I took it to mean they did not pool their tips. Hope that is understood.

I don't mind tipping both ways. They work hard in the heat and are fast and courteous at what they do.

That's exactly what we do. We're too cheap to have someone park our car for us! :drevil:

Congrats! :sohappy:

Since you're from Buffalo, you're going to want to get new shoes for it before winter hits. I wouldn't suggest keeping the stocks on past November up there.

Checkout tirerack.com for good recommendations. But you can sometimes find the sets for cheaper locally so do so before just ordering from tirerack.

I tipped the valet who parked my car once and he locked the doors with the car still running. Moron. It didn't happen at Disney, but it's made me bitter towards tipping the first guy.
