Well, here I am living in Connecticut for a long, long, long time, and tonight is the first time I've heard about this.....

www.norwichbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050320/NEWS01/503200301

which will be about an hour drive from my home. This project includes FOUR different theme parks, the total size of which will be comparable to EPCOT. This is so close to reality that it went to referendum in Preston, Conn today and was overwhelmingly approved. Supposedly all the financing is in place as well, and the expected opening date is in 2007 or 2008.

Another article states that a FORMER DISNEY EXECUTIVE, MAX HOWARD will be the CEO of the company: "Howard has held top management posts for Disney World and DreamWorks."

Obviously, for those of us in the frozen Northeast that can't get to WDW very often, this is extremely exciting, although I would never expect it to match the magic.

Two questions: Are there any other WDW magic members that have heard any details on this?

Who is Max Howard and what exactly did he do at WDW?

P.S. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS GOING TO SNOW HERE AGAIN TOMORROW.   Will there ever be an end to this winter?

  They should check their facts:

Utopia's attendance estimate nearly equals Epcot's 9.4 million visitors in 2004, according to Amusement Business. Epcot's attendance increased 9 percent from the previous year thanks to a strong tourism season in Central Florida and its "New Mission: Space" thrill ride and "Alien Encounter" attraction.

They spend about half the article talking about Disney parks!

I had not heard of this before today. This is very interesting.

I'd like to see some actual details about the parks. It sounds very much like a mix of the old EPCOT idea with a mish-mash of thrill and, of course, with the added proximity to the two mega-casinos 'round there.

I'm about an hour away from this potential development, too. It sounds ambitious, which can make or break it. We'll just have to wait and see...

Supposedly, this is to be built somewhere around Mohegan somewhere.

Incidentally, I also heard on the news today something about building a domed NASCAR track just north of this "Utopia" place. Don't know if the two projects are connected, but they are certainly not the same.

This is from Hartford's NBC affiliate. From a year ago. I guess this isn't new news after all. Anyway, here you go: http://www.nbc30.com/news/2850776/detail.html
