Using my DVC point for RCI?

I just recently tried to book a 1 week vacation in April in Grand Cayman and I was told that there was no availability.... in the ENTIRE Caribbean... But that I could go on a wait list and once an RCI member gave up their week that then we would be booked. I asked how 'likely' that was to happen since we had never done this and were a little nervous about waiting too much longer to book our vacation. They really had no answer for me other than to tell me that is how RCI works. Has anyone booked RCI using DVC points?? What was your experience?? Just trying to see if waiting on the list is the right move or if we should forget RCI all together.

We tried to book thru RCI at Ocean City this past summer and I called at least 9 months in advance and went on the waiting list. Needless to say, I never got it, we finally rented directly in the same complex in April, and I rented out our points to cover the cost. We would have used 275 points for the week, and I only had to rent 100 to cover the rental. I saved 175 points in the long run.

But I was not impressed with the RCI process at all, and am not sure if I would ever try again

We tried this yr to use our DVC to book RCI at Willaimsburg, Ocean City & Hershy PA, and we started trying at 11 months in advanced and we were told nothing was available and that it was all pending if an RCI was willing to give that week back that would something would open up. Honeslty I do not think booking our DVC to use RCI is as easy. We asked about being placed on a wait list and were told there was not such thing as a wait list to book using RCI.

I was also told by a rep that using RCI we should be comfortable booking last min. For us that is not an option since having to request taking time off from work.

We ended up using our points and just went back to WDW.

Renting points?? I have never heard of that. We have been members since 07' (Saratoga springs and now Bay Lake Towers). Interested to hear more about that.

Numerous forums address this, some people rent directly, we chose to use www.dvcrequest.com David advertises on this site, he handled everything so we didnt have to worry about dealing directly with the renters. It was quite simple. We got $10 per point,
