Using DVC dining plan

My hubby just called to extend our reservation by a day. While he was on the phone, he told them that we would also be adding the dining plan. He thought when he did so that she told him that when he was at the 180 day mark, he could call member service to make reservations instead of disney dining. Has anyone else heard of that? I'm not sure if he misunderstood or if I'm really supposed to call them to make my ressies.

Never heard of it myself. Just playing Devil's Advocate, maybe it's something they can do, OR maybe they can get you to a Disney Dining Rep. sooner than waiting on hold if you call WDW-DINE. I suspect it wouldn't hurt for you or your hubby to call back, and see if either the agent just misspoke, or of there's some validity to the comment. Let us know what happens.

I always make my ressies with member services. I did it for my trip at Christmas and have got all of my ressies for my upcoming trip in July through member services.

We also make our dining reservations through Member Services. They do not switch you over to another rep, it is the same person that makes the room reservations. They also set up Magical Express service for us.

Are they able to get into the dining system and tell you right away if you get the reservation, or do they just call you back?

You can make dining reservations over the phone through multiple sources among those are Disney Dining, Reservations and Member services. Not being a DVC member I have never done it through member services before but I can not imagine them not having access to the same systems available to reservations, dinning, guest services and every table service restaurant on property.

That's how we manage our vacation details, too. There's no need for them to call us back. All the info is at their fingertips. Confirmation numbers are given right away.

When I called yesterday they gave me this option too... Maybe it is something new that they are offering as a perk so you don't have to wait on hold, for a half an hour, with dining. I definitely think it is a good thing!:sohappy::sohappy:

I forgot to tell you all, that I did call member services and had them handle my dining reservations. It was the best time I ever had making reservations. She was so friendly and knowledgeable. And she knew who was in my party, so she didn't have to ask me a hundred times the ages and number of people I had, and she didn't feel the need to repeat a hundred times the disclaimer about showing up 15 minutes early blah, blah, blah. We had a great chat and when I emailed to thank her for her wonderful service I got a call from disney thanking me for taking time to note a postitive experience. It was great! :)

I admit I prefer calling Member Services for dining. They have been a lot more helpful when it came to finding tables for large groups than Disney Dining. Not that Disney Dining is bad, I just found the people with DVC were willing to go above and beyond to find what I wanted. They were even willing to explain the tables and how they worked at each of the restaurants we were trying to get ADRs for (group of 11)

Yes! I thought they were very helpful with explaining table sizes and finding what was available, too. Now that I know about it, I sure wouldn't want to go back.
