Disneyland had police officers patrolling the parks when I was there...they didn't seem that out of place...they had special Disney uniforms and acted very much like Cast Members...I talked with some of them and they were nice guys. If done properly and not excessively, they can have them.
As for what Disney would be focussing on here, it is the knives and guns that they want out of the parks. It's nice to look for terrorists, but if someone really wants to blow up Splash Mountain, metal detectors won't stop them. Keeping knives and guns out of the parks will prevent the other smaller scale attacks that do happen in the parks.
