Use of eCigs

Think for yourselfer
I would just use a little common sense. No one wants to breathe in your exhaled water vapor. It's visually, and emotionally unappealing. In a crowded line, keep it put away. On an attraction or in a theatre, the same. Walking down a path, go ahead and puff away.

The idea that it is "safe" is, so far, unproven. And safe or not, I don't want to breathe in someone else's spit. Which, correct or not, is how I perceive breathing in that exhaled vapor.

Edit to add:

It is illegal in public places in NJ. Treated the same way as a cigarette.

also, this came off a little harsh. It wasn't meant that way.

Thank you. I am so tired of people saying they are safe when there is no regulation of the ingredients or manufacturing process, there has been no actual study of the effects and moreover, preliminary testing indicates there are risks:

Manufacturers claim that electronic cigarettes are a safe alternative to conventional cigarettes. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has questioned the safety of these products. When the FDA analyzed samples of two popular brands, they found variable amounts of nicotine and traces of toxic chemicals, including known cancer-causing substances (carcinogens). This prompted the FDA to issue a warning about potential health risks associated with electronic cigarettes.

I'm not sure why smokers are so quick to blindly believe the promises of "clean" or "healthy" smoking with e-cigs just because these manufacturers are spending billions of dollars on shiny advertising trying to make everything seem magical. You do recall Big Tobacco said the exact same thing back in the 50's and 60's about traditional cigarettes, right? They'd have doctors smoking them, talking about health benefits of one brand versus another. Big surprise, it was all bull. And yet, suddenly, everyone is willing to believe e-cig companies at their word that there's nothing harmful in the totally unregulated and proprietary formulas? I don't think so. Until there is oversight, regulation, disclosure and real hard studies done, NO ONE knows if they are truly any more "safe" in the long run - for smokers OR second hand people.

So please do EVERYONE a favor and respect traditional smoking laws and don't "vape" in crowded, non-smoking areas.

We will start seeing more regulation when the govt realizes there is a revenue stream potential in them like with normal tobacco.

ahhh - someone who hit the nail on the head :). Yes, there IS a bit of a problem with e-cigs: no tobacco tax. I expect this to get "fixed" as a normal course of regulation :) - else the mainstreaming of e-cigs will represent a significant revenue loss for the Federal and state coffers.
That's why using taxes to deter negative behavior is hypocritical when it's done by a government that can't control expenditures. You deter the use of whatever you are taxing, but you lose revenue.

The reason these laws are being past is because these e-cigs give children the idea that it's safe to smoke. Whether you agree with it or if you don't that's the reason they are trying to ban the things.
I had a good retort but my lack of care just kicked in.

Your point?

I have said before that I am in favor of e-cigs. Just not in a tightly packed situation. Who cares if they get regulated? Of course they will. It happens with everything, and it would be pure ignorance to assume that e-cigs would escape this scrutiny. And who cares who regulates them? The original poster commented on the use of these in the parks. Not who gets to tax them and how much, or who gets to say who can use them.

And I thought America was the land of the free.

Better to regulate safely than drive it underground.
Not anymore! There is more money to be made in driving it underground and letting the Feds throw gross amounts of money at the problem with no measurable results!! That's the American way!

Well the point is the point now isn't it! ...... I didnt post that for you ;) I posted that as a "See its really all about gubberments\FDA\Big Pharma getting their grubby hands in the pie." You're taken me the wrong way, I'm not attacking you. Perception. I don't disagree with you. Nobody should blow anything into your face or fart on you as well.... but that happens too.

My DM-in-law is a smoker and she started using the ecigs and they don't bother me a bit. If someone pulled one out in line I don't think I would care at all, but I'm sure Disney cares because they know some people would freak out for no reason

I wasn't taking the post as an attack. Get your underwear out of a twist bud. I was semi-confused about your post. That's it.

Okay. I see your point. Some people do freak out over anything. However, I do not want someone puffing on these things right beside me because I don't want that vapor blowing in my face. It can be tantamount to Chinese water torture.

People care too much about what other people do.

If it doesn't affect me then I don't care at all.

"Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits"- Mark Twain

I find it highly ironic at work (a baseball park) that the place is funded by cig tax money, yet "in the interest of health" you can't smoke in the ballpark. Yet, we draw fans like flies to poop for fireworks night where the smoke is choking everyone in the park if the wind is blowing "in". And management doesn't think "a little smoke" is an issue when they get $ out of it. Hypocrisy- it's the American way.
Fantasmic or Illuminations- lot's of $ generating, politically-correct smoke.
