Use of Disney Logos on clothes?

I'm hoping someone has some firsthand knowledge or experience with this question, not an opinion (not sounding rude - just looking for accurate information :animwink: ).

I have designed some Disney logo's that my wife will be able to embroider on some of my shirts for when we go to WDW. One design is an outline of MM's head, and the other is the letter "D" in the well-known Disney script. They are both small, about 1 1/2 inches high. Will this raise a stink with wearing them around WDW? I have heard conflicting "stories" from people about this: some say Disney won't care, since I made them myself and am not distributing them or selling them, and it's not a large Disney character - then others say CM's will freak and ask for my shirt since it is a unauthorized use of a Disney copyright.

I have designed some iron on's using Disney characters that I put on t-shirts for my kids to wear the past two times we've been to WDW. Any CM's who saw them had nothing but nice comments.

I don't see where there would be a problem, but I want to make sure so I don't cause my family any embarassment. I really don't want to have to take my shirt off at the TTC. :lookaroun

yes, it's illegal. But as long as you make no money from that, and there is "©DISNEY" somewhere on it, you're fine.

I put the disney Website index page on a t-shirt about 3 years ago and wore that to WDW :) a couple of CM's commented on it :) you can do it for personal use ..but never for profit ..

Thank you. Nope, no intentions of selling them or distribution. Here's what they look like - I thought they didn't turn out half bad.

Correct me if I'm worng.... but.... Copyright law suggests that graphics and images from the Internet may be used for personal use, but not profit making. I can see why Disney get worried tho, its so easy to make good T-Shirts and stuff nowadays!

I really dont know about the copy write laws and how they apply to images you use online/ off I do know that a few years ago fox was threating people that had X-files images on thier websites :( but I think .. Disney may think of it as free advertisment :) At least as far as images used on websites and and for personal use such as t-shirts. I am pretty sure disney would step in if they found out you were making any money using something that legally belongs to them .. and rightly so.

As long as you don't sell them you are 100% fine. As long as you don't advertise them either, which you obviously can't / won't

They look great, and it's a great idea.

Remember that copyright laws don't only require that you make a profit....if you diminish the value of someone's product, you are in violation of copyright laws...

...if I sell memberships to a website which includes pictures of baseball players and you copy those pictures and distribute them freely in some newsgroup or other website, you diminish the value of my product even though you are not profiting from it.

...this is why file sharing websites like Morpheus and Kazaa are under fire....they don't argue that someone is making a profit, they argue that the value of their product is diminished if they do not receive royalties everytime the product is copied.

Tramp ..but if you distribute something that isnt personal use right? Now I am wondering about something :( not that I think Disney would sue me or anything over this ..but I had this one t-shirt I bought at WDW that said one step in side the gates of walt disney world resorts and you will begin to experience that feeling of warmth, joy and happy ever after I wore it out .. so I cross stitched it and hung it on my wall .. then when I wanted to give someone that loves the World as much as we do a birthday gift I crossed stitched her one too. Does this mean I have violation disney's copy write laws?
