Urgent question

My boyfriend and I just decided to extend our Disney vacation. Here is the problem.. we are stating at a timeshare for 7 days from January 1st to the 8th. However, we are now planning on extending the vacation to Disneys All Star Movies Resort from January 8th till the 12th. This is my question...

I want a 7 day theme park ticket but I will only be on Disney property 4 nights/5 days. It is possible to get my 7 day ticket upon arrival on January 1st? Obviously, I will be going to the Disney theme parks between January 1-8th. Any help??? Thanks

Yes you can get your tickets whenever you wish. Your tickets are only tied to your room if you buy a package. You could even buy them now online.

So upon arrival in Disneyworld I can get the 7 day ticket pass from a theme park or resort (I will be at a timeshare for from the 1st till the 8th) and then get the actual room key on the 8th?

As long as you do not buy the tickets as part of a package, yes. Meaning that when you book the room, just book the room only. Just purchase the tickets when you get there, at a park or resort. You could also just buy them online and they will send them to you so you do not have to waste any vacation time buying them.

I was trying to purchase the Magic Your Way Package. So with that, I would not be able to get the tickets until I actually check in to the All Star Movies Resort on January 8th? I was hoping that I could get the package and get the tickets on January 1st upon arrivial.

Unless you're getting the Dining Plan while you're at Movies, or because you really want the extras that come with a package (free game of mini golf, Planet Hollywood coupon, etc), there's no real reason to purchase a package, especially in an instance like this. Separate hotel and ticket purchases would be the same price as a room+ticket package.

You can purchase your park tickets in advance through the website, or get a slight discount by purchasing them through an authorized ticket reseller.

If you've already booked your package and don't want to cancel/change it, I *have* heard of being able to pick up your package tickets before your actual check-in day. I'm just not sure how far in advance it can be done, and whether the park Guest Relations can do it, or if you have to go to the hotel to do it.

Of course, easiest way would be to just do separate purchases. And when you check into Movies, even if you've already partially used your park ticket, they can be encoded onto your room key for ease of use.

I was just about to suggest that you PM JPVonDrake for an official response to the early ticket pick-up question, but found the answer in an old thread:

When you are booked on a vacation package, you will NOT be able to claim your ticket or any other package entitlement prior to 7 am on your scheduled date of check-in.

So unfortunately, the answer is no, you can't pick them up beforehand. As you have the Dining Plan, which requires a ticket purchase, you now have a few options to weigh:

1) Not going into the Disney parks at all before your check-in at Movies.

2) Buying an additional ticket to cover any pre-Movies days you want to visit the parks. (This is probably the most expensive option.)

3) Probably your best bet economically in the long-run, change the vacation package down to 1-day base tickets (there won't be a change fee as long as you're more than 45 days before check-in). Then purchase separate tickets to cover all park days for this trip. Don't use the 1-day ticket at all, and save it for a future trip. It will remain valid forever, whether you save it for 1 year or for 10 years. Then on a future trip you can upgrade the 1-day ticket into whatever ticket you need.

How many days in total are you planning to visit the WDW theme parks? I ask because it appears as if you could be visiting as many as 12 days during your visit (assumes no visits to non-WDW parks). If this is the case, consider purchasing annual passes for your trip. The break-even price is around the 7-day mark (or it used to be - I haven't checked lately).

An annual pass is expecially recommended if you are planning to make additional visits during 2009.

I would also like to add that if you bought Annual Passes you could ditch the dining plan and get the "Tables in Wonderland" card which will get you 20% off on TS meals.

Thanks for the replies. I just booked the Magic Your Way Package with the Dining Plan for January 8th through the 12th at the Movies Resort. Now hopefully we can get some dining reservations... :xmas:

Here's an important question ... are you planning to park hop? Are you buying park hopper tickets or base tickets? And do you plan to go Disney theme parks all 12 days? The reason I ask ...

A 7-day park hopper ticket (for January 1-7) AND a 5-day park hopper ticket (as part of your January 8-12 package) will cost you a TOTAL of $550.

But if you buy an Annual Pass (which by its very nature includes park hopping) it will cost you $469, a savings of $81.

You have to ask yourself if buying the Disney Dining Plan for your last 4 nights is worth spending $81 more on tickets than you have to. In other words, will buying the DDP cost you $20 less per day than buying those meals out-of-pocket?

So what are going to do about the first seven days as far as tickets?

I purchased a 6 day Magic Your Way ticket for my vacation January 1-7th. And also purchased the Magic Your Way Package with Dining Plan with 1 day ticket pass at the All Star Movies Resort. I will be there from the 8th till the 12th.

Another option would be to purchase the AP, and book the package with the Dining Plan for AP holders, where they don't require a ticket purchase.

But it looks like the OP already has their plan figured out for their trip.

I paid for the Magic Your Way package in full. When will I get the luggage tags and paperwork?

The DME paperwork and luggage tags come in the mail about 3-4 weeks before your trip. You should also get a separate mailing with hotel paperwork, the "souvenier" luggage tags, and any special-offer vouchers from your vacation package (mini-golf, boat rental, Planet Hollywood, etc).
