Upgrade to Deluxe Dining

First question how late can you upgrade a dining plan. We are leaving Sept. 18th and would not be able to upgrade untill atleast the 14th. The cost would be $320 for the two of us. This would be the only cost for the plan since we got the regular dining plan for free. Second do you think it is worth it because it almost feels you become a slave to the food with so many credits to use up. We have some adr's but not near enough to use up the deluxe plan. So with that we would wing the rest of the credits. At that time do you think it would not be much of a problem to get into places? So sound like a good idea or not?

Based on what you are describing it doesn't seem that the plan would work out well for you at this point. ADR's are hard to come by during free dining, so if you were to go with the more expensive plan you would have to try very hard to get them now. Otherwise you are going to be eating some pretty costly counter service meals.

I believe you have to upgrade at least 72 hours before you check in.

3 meals a day is a lot with app, entree and dessert. If you are going to use the deluxe plan, I highly suggest cancelling your dinner ADRs at 1 point restaurants and booking 2 point restaurants for most nights.

We have deluxe dining for our upcoming trip and don't even bother for lunch on most days .. We use have a late breakfast, snack in middle of day and have 2 credit restaurants for dinners

I think you should try to make your ADRs now, if you end up being able to get what you want and using all your points then go ahead and upgrade. If you find yourself just looking for a place to spend ponts then maybe you should not upgrade.

We did the deluxe plan last summer and had all our ADRs booked ahead of time and we absolutely loved it. We were sick of eating at the end of the trip, but we made so many great memories sitting around the table with the kids that we would not give it up for the world. The boys (16 and 8) even made up a new game usnig their straws and the "disney ice" (all the resturants use the same ice for the most part and they would stick their straws through the ice and blow through the straws to see whos ice would fall off into the cup first.

The plan also gave us an opportunity to do a lot of 2 credit meals including the SOA and HDDR. We are big fans, but I could see us using the standard plan as well and just planning a few signature meals and maybe eating poptarts for breakfast with a quick service meal for lunch.

The only way to make it worth it is to book all 2-credit restaurants for dinner and forgo one of the other two meals during the day.

I have yet to meet someone who has been able to eat3 sit-down meals in one day.

Unless you want to return home unable to fit through the door, I don't recommend it.

We have the DDP for our trip in Dec. We eat a TS breakfast and dinner and use our snacks mid day. That way we'll have credits left for our last day, since we don't fly out until late at night. So, we stretch 3 days of dining credits into 4 days. 3 TS meals a day is just WAY too much food!

We are actually doing the deluxe dining plan for the first time March 2012. I planned to do a signature meal for a late dinner each night, and a breakfast buffet early in the morning. We drive so if we don't eat two snacks a day, we can use them all on the last day to bring some stuff in the car with us for the long ride home. I think it would be a lot of food if you tried to eat three TS meals a day, but if you do the signature meals I think it is a good plan.

That is very similar to what we did. And to be honest we are going to change it up a little next time because we were just not that impressed with the food at any of the breakfast buffets. The only one we plan on doing again is 1900 Park Fare for the characters. On our next trip we are planning on eating there and maybe Tusker House but mostly eating snacks or pop tarts for breakfast and then getting an early TS lunch in the park with a late signature dinner. Also this makes it easier to be flexible in the mornings which always seemed to be the biggest hassle.
