Upgrade Questions

We booked our vacation through an outside vendor (Southwest Airlines), so not directly through Disney. At that time, we booked to stay at All Star Music. Well, we have had second thoughts and would really like to upgrade to maybe Polynesian, Beach/Yacht or Contemporary. So, I called back Southwest to upgrade, but they had sold out all of their packages, so no upgrades available through them. They said it was possible I could upgrade at check-in. I called Disney just to see if they would go ahead and let me upgrade and they said that since I booked through the outside vendor, we were not in their system yet. So here are my questions:

1) What do you think my chances are for upgrading at check-in?
2) What do you think the per night charge will be to upgrade from Music to one of the Deluxe resorts listed above?

Thanks!

I dont see why they wouldnt let you change resorts at check in as long as there is avalability and your are willing to pay the diffrence. Id say the price would jump about 100-150$ more a night depending on what resort and what time of year

I forgot to mention that we arrive this week...so that may help folks answer the question around the cost differential between Value and Deluxe resort this time of year. Thanks, again!

All the rates are available on the Disney website. There's a comparison chart here http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/resorts/seasonalityChart?id=SeasonalityChartPage

Disney Value Resorts during regular season start at $99. The deluxe resorts during regular season start at $249.

You can also compare and book a room from here http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/resorts/roomPriceMatrixPage?id=BenefitsOSOPRoomPriceMatrixPage

I went ont he disney website and for 7 nights from Nov 10-17 for two adults would be with no park tix, not sure how accurate this is though but it should be if its from disney,
All star: $811
Poly: $5000
AKL: $3100
I tried to get prices for all the delux resorts but the disney sight was being slow, but gives you a general idea.

This sounds to me like the sort of question that nobody you're talking to really knows the answer to, so they tell you there is no way to help you, instead of finding someone who can actually help you. Sorry aout that.

No matter what, resign yourself to the fact that you're probably staying at All-Star. You might be better off trying to contact the front desk of the resort, rather than going through the all-purpose reservation system. Just let them know that, no offense to the Value resort, you just planned to spend more time at your resort than you normally thought, and would like the larger room and more amenities available at a deluxe resort (it'd probably help if you knew by then which deluxe resort you'd like to visit). Hate to say it, but maybe make up a little white lie, like you're planning to propose, or it's an anniversary or other special occasion. And if they're in a positoin to help you great, If they say they're not, politely ask if the resort manager mght be able to help. And if the resort manager says he/she can't help you, well then, just fnd the silver lining in that cloud. With the money you're saving by NOT staying at a deluxe, you can have awesome meals every night you're there. You can book a private launch for the fireworks. You can rent a convertible! Parasailing! Passes to Universal! (Ouch! Who threw that?!)
