Updates all around...

We were down last year on October 29 thru November 4 and the crane was up. I remember it being lowered certain times of the day. It was certainly not in view when Wishes was in progress. IMHO it is unsightly. Makes it difficult to get a good pic of the castle.

^^ I can understand that the refurb on Primeval should be minor, but aren't these kind of things leaked/ announced much closer to the actual downtime? To have this information a year in advance sounds to me like there are 'bigger' plans for it than your garden variety maintenance refurb.
I'm not quite sure why that one is announced to me so far in advance. It is tentative at this point in time though.

As for the lights, I have no idea. No renderings have come my way.

:Are the lights used with their fireworks show? Or do they just turn them off for the duration?
The lighting at DLP seems to be LED or Fibre Optic based, like nets hung over the building - it is syncronised (pattern colour etc.) with the seasonal firework shows.

Mmmmm, (there's no "Smilies drooling!")(think of Homer Simpson + doughnuts). I hope WDW gets that!
PS Martin, I've been watching all of your Video Tributes this last week, and "WOW!" you are amazing:sohappy: !

Unsure if this was mentioned, but Astro Orbiter will also be closed from Aug. 12 - Aug. 25 for rehab.

The American Heritage Gallery will also be closed for rehab from Jul. 23 - Sep. 26.
O Canada will be closed for rehab from Aug. 21 - Aug. 24.
Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery (DAK) will be closed from Aug. 20 - Nov. 17th.
Spaceship Earth will remain closed until Nov. 13.
I also have Tusker House reopening Nov. 17...
As of today, none of the attractions at Wonders of Life are scheduled to be open, including during the holiday season.

The crane was up during my November trip last year as well. However, they certainly hid it from view in the afternoons and evenings. It was never ever visible during Wishes, as you noted.

6) Does it normally take this long to put lights up? I thought it typically was an overnight process. How obtrusive is this crane? Is it going to be an eyesore for guests/ interfere with the view of the castle from the front?

8) Has this been discussed before? I can't imagine why Primeval Whirl needs a refurb, unless it's getting a different theming or something.

Thanks for all the updates!
There was a crane behind the castle during my November trip. Here's a pic:

It's not that bad. Straight on, you couldn't even see it:

Things might be different with the lights, but this kind of gives you an idea.

Now, onto the lights. I really like that idea! If if turns out to be like DLP's castle, it's going to look beautiful!

Primeval Whirl needs a lot more than that. They are replacing pieces and parts on it almost daily. It just keeps breaking down. and they are welding on the track constantly. Maybe they figure that is how long it will last before it completely falls apart.

My God, how long has China been under that tarp? What are they doing under there...

I'm surprised it's going to take TWO MONTHS to put lights on the Castle? The first MVMCP is two days before the scheduled departure of the crane according to this thread; I really hope they have it all done and neatly put away before they start charging $50/head to see it.

Well, the rest of China that's finished looks stunning. They've replaced the roofs essentially and really spit-polished the ornate carvings and such. The interior of the temple of hope looks amazing right now. I guess they've just working on the temple at this point - however long that will take.
