Upcoming Trip, meal tips?

Hi everyone.
Well Im offically excited about my families upcoming trip to Disney.
I used to live in Florida and was a regular at Disney and moved to Texas in 2006. Well this is the longest amount of time that has passed without going to Disney.

We are going for 7 nights and staying at the PopCentury. This is going to be different for me. First, we dont have a car, as I used to drive to WDW. now Im flying and did not want to rent a car to have it sit in a parking lot for 7 nights.

What do you recommend, or what do some of you do for food while on property with no car? I really cant think of eating WDW park burgers and fries for 7 days. I think ill be grossed out after the first day. (Nothing against WDW food) but we all know its expensive and not the best.

Is there any form of transportation to leave Disney Property? Like if we want to get to International Drive or anything outside of the world?

Thanks!
Any ideas for evening? Obviously DOWNTOWN DISNEY but anything else?
Does anyone take food to the park?? Is it even allowed? Does the POP CENTURY have refridgerators upon request?

I have two small kids (age 1 & 4) so any ideas would help!

- you can get a fridge at Pop but it will cost about $11/night

There is plenty to eat in the parks besides burgers and fries:

MK
- The Plaza restaurant has some great sandwiches
- Columbia Harbor House for Clam Chowder, Chili, Chicken, Fried Fish
- Chicken or Ribs at Cosmic Rays

Epcot
- awesome selection at Sunshine Seasons

AK
- Tusker House!

Pop Century has flat breads, salads, soups, and other great selections

There are many menus here on wdwmagic - check them out.

Have you checked into purchasing the dining plan? We love using it and eating at the table service restaurants throughout Disney property, which all is accessible by using Disney transportation. The regular dining plan runs about 40.00 a day for adults & 11.00 a day for children 9 & under.

From your original post I'm guessing that you are looking for counter service options. You can get several different counter service meals in the World Showcase.

Cantina De San Angel - Mexican
Lotus Blossom Cafe - Chinese
Sommerfest - German
Yakitori House - Japanese
Yorkshire County Fish Shop - Fish & Chips
Boulangerie Patisserie - Great Bakery Items

We have had food from all of the above and the food is good for counter service meals.

The Boardwalk is great at night - places to eat, shops, street entertainment etc. It's best if you spend the afternoon at Epcot, then take a boat or walk from the International Gateway - then to go back to your resort, take a boat to the Studios, and a bus 'home'.

One can bring their own food in the parks. Our last trip, the kids were ages 1 & 4. After 2 days of restaurants, all they wanted was a PB&J. we made a sandwich every night & carried into the park. Drinks are also allowed except ETOH & no straws in AK.

Pretty much all of the counter service restaurants now sell healthier options. It's not just burgers and fries anymore. Now you can get grilled chicken sandwiches and most counter service places have at least 1 large salad on the menu.

:sohappy: We just got back from a week at Pop and didn't eat burgers or fries once!! We had great meals through the whole week. Breakfast at Chef Mickey, dinner at the Coral Reef, O'Hanas, Liberty Tree, Chef de France,Whispering Canyon Cafe,Mama Melrose. We also had great counter service at Pop, Flame Tree, Sunshine Seasons, Cosmic Rays ect. We had the meal plan and ate great! We had wonderful snacks at the Main Street Bakery, the bakery in France, Ice cream shop on Main Street, the list goes on and on. I find the prices are competitive for childrens meals and counter service. Every thing counter was 15. and under, even for full meals. The dining plan worked very well for us this time

Thank you all very much.
I am definately going to purchase the meal plan. It comes out to $646.00 for my wife, myself and my son for 7 days. Sounds good to not have to worry about that!

Thanks again! Starting to get excited. Leaving in one week :)

When picking your meals - to save time and so you don't have to deal with transportation issues with no vehicle - I suggest eating in the parks or at a resort that can be accessed by the monorail. This cuts down on bus hopping to try to get to a different resort. There are loads of options!!

MK - you have El Pirate and Columbia House among the many options - and there is Crystal Palace and Liberty Tree!

Epcot - any and all countries!

AK - Yak and Yeti! :slurp::slurp::slurp::slurp:

DHS - Pizza Planet is a great non burger choice!!
