where the first show was innovative, the current is not, the only redeeming ride gimmick is the lights out wall drop at the end(hiding the computers and showing the figments)... never since the original JII have we seen the likes of the 'carousel' and the fixed/moving scene from an omnimover.

I have 2 girls, 2 and 5 years old. They both enjoy the current imagination ride. They smile, point, and laugh at many scenes of the show, mostly Figments open house. They sing the song, and we ride it multiple times. While the carousel was innovative, and an excellent introduction to the ride, the fact remains that current ride is also entertaining, and does not feel old, or falling apart.

But it should not be geared to just entertaining kids that age. We, as a family, enjoyed the ride back in its original form. Now it's just plain juvenile.

I was not suggesting the target age should be 2 to 5 year old children. I was simply making the point that the current ride is successful in that it provides entertainment that we can enjoy as a family. Juvenile? Possibly. But the original was far from perfect.

This reminds me of discussions on how the 'old' muscle cars were better than cars of today, until you drive an old one, and remember how terrible it does ride after all. If Disney brought back the original as a replacement (without us ever experiencing the original), this board would light up with complaints.

while i agree that taken in vacuum, Imagination is OK. but no one is busting down the doors to get on it, like soarin or test track. JIYI is a quaint ride that needs some Plussing to make it more enjoyable for all ages and to bring more of the ravenous horde to it, lessening strain on other rides. (and this is from the guy that rides LWTL every time i enter the park, and has yet to even ride Soarin for the first time)

And this is where we disagree. I believe imagination as a dark ride will never draw the attention that Test Track or Soarin' does, simply because of the style and story of what the ride provides. It is not a 'thrill' ride. I would argue no matter what is added, removed, or replaced with, imagination will never be as popular as it may have been in the past, with the exception of adding a thrill ride element, such as Imagination - the roller coaster..... So the argument is, should Imagination be replaced with something more thrilling to satisfy the current generation?

I do not believe so. The current ride allows my family, of any age, to spend time together on a ride, point out a few things, and have a good time; without having to hold on to my seat, or talk over loud music. The current ride provides that, isn't that what this is all about?

So are you suggesting that the ride isn't as terrible as some on this forum claim, and that all discussions about the Imagination Pavilion should focus on restoring the missing Image Works? I would have an interest in seeing the Image Works return, but I still defend the current ride.

No I think the new ride is terrible and the old one is much better, but you asked us not to say that. :) If the old one was there I would ride it every time I go to the park, the new one I rode once in my past three trips. My point was that you dismissed the closing of Imageworks because it wasn't a vacation killer. I have seen many posts on here where people dismiss things that changed because they were to small to ruin their vacation. But you start taking away to many of things then it becomes a problem.

You don't need to build thrill rides to satisfy the current generation. Pirate of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion are still hugely popular non-thrill dark rides.

Ok, I am prepared to open myself up to all the attacks and ask, what is so wrong with the current imagination pavilion? And please, do not include the words, 'too short', or ‘not as good as the original', as the defense.

As a child from the 80s, I can tell you I remember the original imagination vividly, and also remember how frightening the literature room scenes were to me, and it breaking down on us all the time. As an adult now with 2 small children, we enjoy the imagination ride.

I have no particularly fond memories of the original ride, but the current incarnation is simply annoying. Very, very annoying. And then it effectively farts on you.

Thanks, but I can get an identical net experience at home alone with my kids.

Imagination, to most people, is just not cool. Its not that it is a dark ride. It is not that it is not the original. It is because it is lacking the 'cool' factor. Pirates and Haunted Mansion has pirates, and dancing ghosts - how cool is that? So it comes down to Imagination is not fun enough, particularly too educational and thought required. Especially in a time when being smart and educated is synonymous for the uncool, sweater vest wearing, comic book collecting, video game playing, socially inept people. So as long as Imagination exists at Epoct in any other form other than a thrill ride, it will be disliked. I just don't understand why it is disliked so much.

How then is geek chic a term? A How can a theme park land based on a fantasy novel series be so big? How can a comic book movie gross over $1 billion? It seems you're just not aware of what is presently cool.

What is educational or thought required about the Imagination ride?

The ride starts in the sound labs, it is dark and you image what your mind sees, based on the sounds, ie the train. If I need to go on, then nothing I can say will help you get it.

In your original post you are basically asking why people dislike the ride and state that you really enjoy it, then you go on in your other posts to explain why no one likes the ride and why it will never be popular. I am not really clear what point you are trying to make?
