I was at Downtown Disney today and noticed this Haunted Mansion pin in their Upcoming Pins box. It is a depiction of the new staircase scene that is being added to the Mansion.

Disney seems to be showing their hand (even if it's stuffed that leaked through more "traditional" methods) with their pin designs more and more. Great find!

Oooooohh... :sohappy:

Now the question is... I wonder how "accurate" this pin is going to be to the ride experience... in other words, the pin makes it appear that you're completely surrounded by the stairs instead of just passing by them. i wonder if that's how it will be, or if this is just a concept illustration more than an attempt at capturing the ride experience.

EDIT: Dude! Check out the FOOTPRINTS on the stairs too! I wonder if we'll be getting some ghostly footprint effects (a'la the "Tower of Terror" fiber optic sign effect?

I mentioned that in the other thread... That the doorway you see in the picture of the model has stair shapes cut into the top, as if your doombuggy might pass THROUGH that door, as opposed to on the outside. Who knows.

I noticed those footprints right away, too. In the Haunted Mansion book, there are many pictures from the Disney archives that show shadowy footsteps appearing on the floor, etc... A bit that never made the final version of the attraction. I'm betting this is the Imagineer's way of "plussing" a classic, while staying true to the original visions put forth by the original designers. If that's the case, BRAVO. :sohappy: :sohappy:

And I'm betting it IS the case. When I was out at Disneyland for the PoTC3 Premier, I spoke for a while with the guy that did the design for the Tomorrowland Terrace (formerly Club Buzz). He flat out said that there was a strong push to use the original Rolly Crump design as inspiration. From the top down.

It's good to see those in charge recognizing those that came before them.

So exciting! By the way the pin looks, it almost looks like you are on the staircase or going through it. Is there enough room on both sides for a staircase that grand to fit (I know forced perspective but still)?
Oh the suspense!!!

Excellent. WHY OH WHY IS IT CLOSED NEXT WEEK!

Regardless (I know updates take time), I agree that it seems the pins are really starting to show intent, but Disney used to do that with other merchandising. There had been posters, coloring books, etc. that depicted things that never made it. So, I think the pins are merely the 2007 version of that. BUT, their track records seems pretty good as of yet, so I'm all for the glimpses into the future WDW. :D

Hence why the DDG was told to remove the wand from all new merchandise long ago. (Yet the stupid toothpaste font still made its way to the pins!)

If you look at the photo, there's only one railing, and it's on the outside of the set, which seems to hint that we're seeing half of the scene here. I believe the model itself shows what will be located on the right-hand side of the staircase when the Mansion opens, and that there will be another show scene on the left-hand side. That's just my guess based on the way the model is shown and the way the ride was laid out (with the cars leaning back and facing straight ahead during the staircase scene, with the railings visible on both sides).

The footprints on the stairs have been rumored for a while, haven't they?
