Upcoming Announcements in Weeks and Months to come?

Tom Staggs stated that there will be announcements coming for WDW in the weeks and months to come including news about DTD. We pretty much know about DTD, but what else could or will be announced? I can understand that things may not have been ready for D23 but October is just around the corner and Disney used to make a lot of announcements at that time. So whats on the horizon? MI:Coaster?, A new dark ride?, AK expansion?, MuppetsLand (remember there is a new movie coming out and they are rebooting the franchise)?...

I think we will hear about possibly some new stores or restaurants moving into DTD. As far as the rest? When he says "months"...think like 12-24 months. I don't see anything of any real substance being announced anytime soon. His response was a very professional, yet calculated response. Anything new that may possibly be announced I think will be bundled with FLE opening...

I for one am hoping the lack of announcements for WDW at D23 means that some announcements are coming on the Oct. 1st anniversary.

That being said, I'm still not holding my breath.

That would be nice, but like you, I know this is insanely unrealistic. Making an announcement for an anniversary they already have basically written off doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Also, the venue and audience just won't be there. Casual guests who happen to be there on Oct. 1 is not the audience Disney would be interested in making these announcements to.

He specifically mentioned DtD. Which means they have something going on there, just not finalized enough to actually announced. We know about the new parade and the Fantasmic refurb. As well as GF DVC. But none of those are officially official. So they are what he is talking about.

In other words: You'll all be disappointed.

First of all....who's "You'll all"? Second of all - the new parade and Fantastic refurb are just as much rumors as the MI coaster at this point. So no, we really don't know anything. And a DTD announcement could be as simple as Cheesecake Factory is moving in and an opening date for Splitsville...

-FastPass will be a pay only system

-The rights to Dole Whip will be sold to Universal

-Every parade will be replaced with Stitch-a-palooza Dancefest

-The hat from the studios will be placed on Spaceship Earth

You forgot King Louie will be added to the JC and Beastly Kingdom will also be completed.

You all = the majority of this board. The people that read into a statement like this and think he must be referring to something huge. Those that expected out of the blue announcements at D23, and were disappointed when the rumors were not true.
Fantasmic refurb is on the books.
The parade is a rumor, yes.
As for the DtD announcements, you're 100% correct. It could be anything. But he specifically mentioned it, therefore there is something to be announced, it just wasn't ready for D23.

Personally, I think Staggs' comments were nothing more than juicy Red Herring to quell the anger of D23 attendees who feel ripped off.....that and the growing number of WDW fans who are getting more and more vocal about the state of the parks and the lack of competitiveness being exhibited by TDO, considering the boy Wizard down i-4.

If anything is announced other than another half-baked Downtown Disney idea, I'm eating my dirty shorts...

From reading these boards it seems so many people are concerned with competing with Harry, what Universal has done and has always done is create a place that is much more geared to older teens and thrill seekers. Walt's vision for DL and WDW was to create places where families can go and have fun and spend time together. I think sometimes we forget that, so people should not expect that vision to change, as for announcements I think that we all can wish for a lot of things and God knows HS and AK could use some major love and Epcot also. These are difficult economic times and Disney has to protect the bottom line, they are not going to spend every extra cent on the parks and not stash anything away. They are not our Congress and are just going to spend, spend, spend to make everyone happy. We should be happy with what are getting and enjoy what surprises Tom may have been alluding to. Maybe they will be big and maybe they will be small, but when he says we will hear something in months I think we need to trust that. If I were Disney I would want to finish one project and do it right (Which someone body will still complain about) then take on more than they can chew. I better the que for PP will be addressed, maybe something by the tea cops, maybe something with Indy Racer..then move on. I would love to add BK, love to the Monsters Inc Coaster added, a few new attractions to HS...but we can't have everything we want.

Probably unrelated but there was a pretty big homage to classic Epcot Center in the D23 Carousel of Projects pre show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxgCDTa22ys&feature=player_embedded#!

That part where all the classic Epcot Pavillion logos flashed on the screen and the Horizons music started playing brought warm feelings to my heart.

Also, yea I don't expect any new announcements until either the next D23 expo or close to the opening of the fantasyland expansion in Fall 2012. Whichever comes first. Right now they want all eyes on Cars Land in CA and FLE in FL.

Fantasmic refurb is on the books.

Doesn't mean there's going to be anything substantial. There is NOTHING confirmed about major changes and/or upgrades to the show. All that's confirmed is that it's going down for 6 weeks. For all we know, it could be routine technical maintenance with no external changes to the structure of the show.

I'd love to hear them say they're adding Murphy, or ditching the Pocahontas scene, but I doubt either will be occurring.

If his "exciting" announcements are about a new DVC and a new parade that was overdue 5 years ago, yes people are going to be disappointed. And rightfully so. They're not "exciting" in the least.

I'm not a doom and gloomer, nor am I one of the pixie dust fairies, by the way. I'm just calling it like I see it.

Trying not to sound greedy but... Seeing how it takes Disney about 2-3 years to create new "Magic"; they should always have something under construction at, at least 2 parks.

When TSM opened another ride should have been started for 2-3 years later.

When EE opened AK should have started work on the next big thing for 2-3 years later.

Same with Epcot and MK.

I just think it’s kinda crazy that they announce the FLE and we then get nothing for 3 years (rides) at all the parks. And even if they did announce something in a month or so, odds are it won’t open for 2-3 years. And we will get nothing till that one thing opens.

With 4 parks there should be at least 1 new RIDE at at least 1 of the parks each year.

I agree 100000%. In the whole WDW resort, there truly is an amazing amount of things to see and do. We all agree with that, that's why we are on this site. But lets face it. When it all boils down, people go to WDW for the 4 parks, and their rides, parades, and other attractions.
And adding new things in Communicore (Yeah, I'm old school) or replacing Audio Animatronics with HD tv's in Haunted Mansion don't really cut it as "new things." One legitimate "C" or "D" ticket per calendar year is a very achievable goal. I'll maybe give a break of one year AFTER they open up a true "E" ticket on the level of EE or ToT. But there's no reason to believe thay can't open a new TSMM type of ride annually. Gut out Buzz's Space Ranger Spin and throw something new in there every 5 years. Do something with the Rhine River ride in Germany. Heck I'll even settle for a new Soarin' movie. But the current schedule of new rides, and the pace of their opening is very disappointing.
