Unsure who to vote for regarding the Walt Disney Co. Board

Different thread…same schtick

It’s NOT the theater’s fault for 10 flops in a year. It’s terrible content. We have seen several movies make $1-$2 billion in the last two years if they have pull. That’s not a conspiracy against Disney. They just are making crap.
Barbie, Super Mario Bros., and Oppenheimer sure didn't have any trouble turning out the audiences. Amazing what can happen when you don't put out crap.

I'd love for someone to explain to me how the current Disney leadership is going to just come to their senses and stop churning out garbage.

In the end… our votes will not be determining what happens.

The question is, what do the biggest shareholders think, and will they follow the Disney backed board, or go rogue?

Any of that going on now?

Has there been a worse year - objectively - for the TWDC like 2023? It will be hard to find

How long has sweater boy been there? Does he “need more time”?

And I’ll always listen to good points…but if it contains “he left and needs time”…well then we’re not serious. Enough of that garbage.
Disney was still number 2 at the global box office in 2023 and was only narrowly beat by universal by less than 2%…

It’s impossible. It’s the same leadership that has reached it expiration date.

How am I confident? They make bad Star Wars…or none at all…and yet they can’t stop the bleeding. It’s not that hard of a fandom to read. It won’t support Daisy Ridley and Rian Johnson vomit on screen.

There, Disney, I just gave you invaluable insight. 🙄

Wow, three hits! Certainly the entertainment industry can't be experiencing dramatic changes!

You're condemning the same leadership that made Disney box office champs for many, many years. Based on one disappointing year. This is not analysis. This is something else.

The people attacking Disney need to stick to theme parks, which have been declining. They look very, very silly when they try to discuss film.

Disney still had four of the top ten movies of 2023. Universal had the two you named and Warner Bros has the one. Why isn’t Warner Bros Discovery just making more hits like Barbie which would turn around their financial situation? Why does Sony keep making meh at best Spider-Man spin-offs instead of making more hit Spider-Man movies like the Spider-Verse movies? Why did Universal make a poor performing Fast & Furious movie after so many successes?

What absolutely will not create good content is Peltz’s plan to have more executive, bureaucratic meddling in the creative process.

Are you as equally wowed! With 1 hit and 8 or so flops?

It's really quite simple:

If you make a movie people want to see, they'll turn out.
If you make a movie people don't want to see, they won't turn out.

To your point, Disney is absolutely capable of putting out quality content. They've done it fairly recently, and under much of the same leadership. However, if the current leadership has lost its way, it's time to bring in a new slate who can restore Disney to its rightful place as king of the box office.

Also, it's been several years of studio underperformance, but 2023 was the icing on the cake.

They did not.

They released less movies. Disney released 17 films compared to Universals 24.

You really should stop making things up.
The movies that flopped lost $950 ish? Maybe more actually because marketing budgets are not clearly defined.

Which studio are you referring to?

Guardians made money…which others have I missed? Probably some of the arthouse stuff…you probably have some ground there

Nobody wants to take their kid to see a pitchy black woman playing Ariel (The Little Mermaid) or see some pandering girl boss superhero movie (The Marvels).

So people want to see the fifth highest grossing movie of a year but they don’t want to see the sixth?

The Little Mermaid underperformed, and would have done even worse if not for the $140 million in ad spend to try to save it. There was an ad for that movie on every Netflix and radio break I had during it's theatrical run. There are no excuses.

Getting back to the big picture, I'm still waiting to hear why anyone thinks that the current board and C-Suite should be entrusted to turn things around when such embarrassing flops (not just The Little Mermaid) were produced on their watch? Iger says they're going to focus on putting out "quality content." Does he even know what that means anymore? It doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

Again… it’s one thing to distrust the current board and leadership team and want to see change. It’s another to willingly support people who are known to be toxic and magnify all of the worst traits you hold against the current regime. Different isn’t always better especially when we already know they are worse.

Yeah, it under performed but was still in the top ten.

You tell us. Peltz wants most of those people more involved!

It’s not even close to a binary choice

It’s not Bob on the throne or Peltz

What’s needed is succession. Now. Yesterday in fact. How is that best accomplished?

You hate what Peltz represents? Most of us do…

But without some change…now…there will be ANOTHER extension announcement in 2025.
Is the “threat” enough to stop this? Maybe…but this is about the 6th times we’ve seen this play. And it’s neither an ingenious play…or a good one.
