Unofficial Guide 2006

I am really bummed out. The release date for the Unofficial Guide 2006 was supposed to be yesterday 08-08-05. I went to Barnes and Noble today and they said they would not have it until the end of the month. I also checked with a second book dealer Waldenbooks and they siad it was not even in their system yet. Has anyone puchased the 2006 book yet? I guesse I will have to buy it at Amazon.

Speaking of Disney books...I've been waiting for the Imagineering Field Guide to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. That was supposed to be released June 1 and it still isn't out! I've repeatedly called Barnes and Noble and they don't have a clue as to when that will arrive. I'd like to have that before I go at the end of October. Anyone have any idea as to when this will become available???

Although considered to be the best source of info for WDW (by me at least) it will sadly be out of date by the time it hits the book shops as the Internet and sites like WDWMagic and Allearsnet are at the forefront of up-to-date information

Just an update:

Barnes and Noble now lists the publication/availability date as August 29th.

I checked my order from Amazon which now states that I should expect the book anytime from August 16th (tomorrow) to September 2nd.

Sigh... either way, I'm going to have to wait a little bit longer than expected. but as of now it looks like it should be here before my trip! So there's one positive!

Arrrgh! Leaving in 26 days 8 hours (not that I'm counting or anything).

What am I going to do if I don't have my new Unofficial Guide?

My Amazon order is still showing a delivery date of August 12. Well, looks like that didn't happen. I wonder why they didn't update it. I gave my 2005 book to my Uncle who is going over Christmas and now I have nothing. I take comfort in knowing I am not the only crazy one waiting for this darn book to be released :)

I ran out and got my 2005 book last Fall... only to have portions of it be completely obsolete by the time my trip in Feb/March came along!! Between the evening EMHs, MYW passes and the new rides, well... it just wasn't as up-to-date as I would have liked (to the point that I was practically tempted to pick up the updated version last Spring)! Unfortunately, it is making me less likely to pick up this new edition, which is too bad as I lurve me the Unofficial Guide!! ;)

Does anyone know how extensive the updates are for this new edition?

Some of the updates are already online, such as the new "Parks to hit/miss" list, a detailed explanation of the dining plan, and a lot of little updates.

Yeah, unfortunatley Disney did radically re-do the ticket structure this December, and that must have thrown them for a loop as far as updates (and may have played a part in its being delayed) But for us, it's an institution. The book allows us to pshych ourselves up about our trip. Plus, for us, we always go in Sept. so it's not *that* out of date by the time we go. But that is one of the flaws inherent in any travel guide. Nothing printed moves at the same speed as life. True, the net will always be the first source of breaking news. But I still love reading it, and the touring plans make our day a bit more organized.

I'll still get it every year, even if nothing but the date changes. It's part of our tradition.:D

Hi guys,

Wow, I can't believe I missed this thread. Thanks to AMH97 for IMing me.

The Guide should be available mid-September. We finished writing it about a month ago, and from there it went to be indexed and printed.

The '06 edition includes major updates to transportation, resorts, and the dining sections, none of which are on the website. As with the second 2005 edition, it also contains information on Magic Your Way tickets, the new dining plan, and so on. New Jim Hill anecdotes are in for all four parks, too. I'm sure I'm not mentioning some of the new stuff, so if there's a particular section you're interested in, let me know.

Sincerely,

Len

Gah! *cringes and recoils from that comment*

Why? Why him? Now i've gotta hear the average tourist going "Jim Hill said...."

*sigh* It's like how with Birbaums the comment is always "Well, Birbaums said.. and they're the 'official' guide..."

I like guidebooks, really I do, it's just so hard to keep up with all that the mouse does - even here with a dedicated group of people.

He's also got a feature in this month's Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine, along with David Koenig. (I love the magazine, and subscribe anyway.)

What, no one's interested in whether WDWMagic.com made the "best of the internet" list? ;)

Len

PS: If you guys ever have a question on something in the book, or want to see a new feature, feel free to drop me a line: len@touringplans.com. It may take a while to respond, but I will.
