I have just booked 1 night at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Universal because you can use your room key to get unlimited queue skips on the selected Express Pass rides.

We had a friend try this out: They booked for 1 night as well, turned up nice and early to get their room key (too early to officially check in but were still allowed their room key). They left their luggage in the hotel and went out in the parks for the day. The next day, they checked out their room but still kept their room key and had ANOTHER day in the parks with unlimited queue skips.

Has anyone else had experience on this? We are doing Disney first then a night here. Then off to Naples after some time on International Drive.

A beast of a honeymoon....4 days to go!!!!!!! :)

When we went in March 2007, the same thing happened to us regarding the room keys; we got them at something like 9 a.m. then we returned for check-in time at somewhere around 4 in the afternoon. Got on most of the rides I'd wanted to at that time anyway... that Pass was golden. :D

I have a question for those you that have stayed at a Uni hotel before. Do they actually swipe you room key to verify that you have a valid resort key or do you just show the your key and get sent right in? I'm just wondering what they do to keep you from coming back in a month and showing your key from a previous stay when you are actually staying at the Motel 6 on I-Drive.

On certain very popular attractions that are experiencing long lines, such as Spiderman or Hulk, they will scan your pass to confirm that is valid. Most of the time, though, they'll simply check the dates and if it checks out they send you through.

And to the OP, yes I've used that technique several times - it works wonderfully. :D

Heading for the great escape.
If you check in early and they cant allocate a room theyll give you a temp room key so you can utilise Express Pass, they also give you a free phone number to check when your rooms ready.
Your privileges last till park closing on the day of departure, we have 3 nights at the Hard Rock every trip.

If you are going to do this again register on the Lowes web site to become a Lowes First member, you can get better rates and free upgrades. We are paying a special room and ticket rate in Nov but are allocated a suite on booking as we have a number of qualifying nights stays.

I've never had them scan a room key before. Interesting.

I agree that the key/pass is a great reason to stay onsite. Just booked Portofino again for the October/HHN trip. If I can find my way out of those ginormous bathrooms and actually get to the park, we should have a blast!

Have a great honeymoon!

Oh, I wouldn't. Heck, I haven't even stayed at a Uni Hotel. I was just curious how they handled it.

We're supposed to confiscate expired room keys...I'm not going to lie, one of my favorite things about working out front at greeter is pocketing expired Express. Especially when the guest argues, or tries to play dumb =D
