Absolutely correct! If you like McDonalds, you can still eat at Burger king, right? If you like Star Wars, does that mean you can't like Star Trek? There is nothing wrong with going.

It was not my cup of tea, but it is for many others. My brothers love it. I think it caters a lot more to thrill seekers.

Don't feel guilty, go and enjoy or make the attempt to enjoy in my case. Either way, at least you will have made the attempt.

When we went in April we bought two day hoppers. We were only planning on spending one day, but bought the hopper anyway so we could go between the two parks and plus we figured we could use th eremaining day when we go back next April.

My family loves Disney, but IOA and US have some fun things to do...SpiderMan, Shrek, Hulk, Jurrasic Park, Ripsaw Falls, Bluto's Barge...it was a good time.

It's amazing how this topic can get out of hand with all the "purists" resisting the other park.

I'm just as big a disney freak as the rest of you, but I'll always go to USF and IOA when i make a trip down to Orlando. My best advice would be to go check it out and if you like it, go again on your next trip, and if you don't, just stay at Disney. But at least give yourself a chance. To all these other people posting who say they don't go, no offense, but you're all missing out. I can understand if you went and didn't like it and decided not to go anymore. Sure, it's not Disney. But nothing else is. It's a theme park resort that is well conceived, and I think Marijil should go and give it a try, at least for the kids. What if your kids enjoy it so much that they'd want to go back? You'd be depriving them at least the chance if you didnt' go.

I know this topic has been debated to death, I'm just saying give it a chance before not going. You may be surprised what you find.

My daughter loves Disney, but she loves Nickelodeon as well. So when we go down in December we will spend 4 days at WDW and hop over to Universal via Mears.

I enjoy the trip and I must say that when I go back to my disney resort at night it just makes me all that happier to be back in the world!!

Oh and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is good for a cheeseburger and a kickbutt margarita.

Take the kids, they need to get slimed.

it drives me :hammer: :veryconfu :hurl: when people act as if they had some kind of contract with Disney in which they can't step off property. Please... :brick:

If you ask about Universal in a Disney Forum it's obvious nothing good is going to come out of it. so Go with your mind cleared... With no negative nor positive comments on the universal property. Most likely, if you go with a negative aspect of it, your not going to like it.

I know a lot of people that would prefer Universal Studios rather than Disney, and other wise. It's all a matter of taste... So go with your mind clear relax and have fun, then tell us what you think.

People that limit themselfs to just a few things are doomed to fail. So don't limit your self! Try everything... See everything...Do everything you can... At least once. :p

Have Fun! :sohappy:

I don't know why there is all this hatred towards Universal here. Honestly, if Universal didn't exist, WDW wouldn't be what it is today. Univesal has brought more tourists to Orlando (more Disney customers) and has forced WDW to expand at a good rate.

That being said, I fully recommend going to Universal for a day or two on your trip. While it's no Disney park, it's still one of the better parks out there. The theming is top notch, and the rides are excellent. The quality is slightly less than Disney's quality, and the employees aren't as friendly and outgoing, but don't let that scare you away. There is a world of fun to be had in Universal.

I guess that for us Brits we normally take 2 weeks in Florida and 14 days of pure Disney, even for hardened fans, might just be a little too much...

This is exactly the way i am doing it in 2004. If any Brits are going as people from my work have....do it all! Thats whats its there for you are no way a traitor for going to a different company.

I am even going to Discovery Cove i think which is mega expensive because i know i won;t be going to Florida again for a long long time (its 12 years since the last! And Universal had just been open for 2 days!!). Do everything see the lot and then you can make your own mind up.

IMO Disney has the magic, Universal has the extreme rides (IOA) and there are other things to see like the Space Centre and maybe Gatorland. So much to do i might actually go insane! Wooo, toot toot! Brrrm brrm i'm a motor car!!

Yes it's true I used to not be such a Universal hater, I had hopes for it ... that is until I went. I wasted two days that could have been spent at Disney and have regretted it ever since. Go check out their sites, there isn't a whole lot to do there, and the stuff that is there, they have it at Disney and they have it better. Trust me, stay in Disney.

This is a good example of bad advice on the internet. For this fellow to say you will regret wasting your time at Universal is just silly. Sorta like an atheist saying you will regret going to church or a vegan saying you will regret that steak. Of course, most of us here are mature enough to realize that this post is just one persons heavily biased opinion. (don't even start a debate about opinion vs. fact with tomman710, as he proved in a previous post he does not know the difference)

Now, tomman710, before you get all worked up, you should realize that people come here looking for helpful information. To say in all caps, STAY IN DISNEY helps no one. Who are you to force your agenda on others? I believe everyone should try the other parks for themselves, deciding on their own. You can tell from my screen name where my allegiance lies. Still, I would never be so bold as to tell someone they will regret going to Universal. They may love it. They may not. Its certainly not up to you to decide, but them.

As for Disney having everything Universal has, wrong again. ET, Jaws, Spiderman, Twister, Hulk, Dueling Dragons, Dr. Suess, Nickelodeon, Terminator 2:3-D, Jimmy Neutron, MIB, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, the list of things to do at Universal is huge. I would venture to guess anyone saying not to go has never stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, or Portofino Bay, both lovely resorts with incredible landscaping and theming. Citywalk is a good choice too. Jimmy Buffet's, Emiril's, Hard Rock Cafe, all good, fun places to eat.

My whole point is everyone is different. There are choices, sometimes difficult choices to make, but you should use your own judgement and not someone else's. I personally like Epcot the best. I know some people who went once and never go back to Epcot, as they found it boring. So which of us is right. Neither, and both. So I say give Universal and IOA a try. While you're at it, my second favorite park of all is....SeaWorld. ooops, not a Disney park. So what? I still love all things Disney and have been 16 times now. I will continue to go at least once a year. And I will visit Universal, IOA, and SeaWorld too. Why limit my options?

I think you have missed the point, a woman was asking the opinions of the users of this site whether to go to Disney, therefore we were giving opinions on whether to go or not. Also surely there must some discussions on the competitiors cause after all i think most people on here are trying to enhance each others holidays/trips to Disney and Florida in general.

Just to let everyone know Universal will be closed for a long period of time for updates. They have to change all the light bulbs and generators and breaker panels to parent company GE  just stay at Disney and you will be happy

This is silly! Universal is awesome!! My bf and I went there for four days and stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel after going to WDW. Universal is just as clean and the rides are just as high quality- so much better than a 6 flags! We love thrill rides/coasters. One other thing about Universal is that if you stay onsite, you get the unlimited Express pass- go on any ride over and over and over- no little paper tickets, just flash your key card- this makes it totally worth it to stay onsite.- plus you can walk to both parks. I am a fan of BOTH Disney and Universal. Also, the DO sell and one day hopper (although without the unlimited express passes I don't know how you could do everything). I believe the One day hopper was $69.99 plus tax when I was there this past summer. -Stephanie

I totally agree on some and disagree on others.

Yes, as I stated I think people should go to US and IOA and check it out. It was not for me, but my brothers love it. I think everyone has what they like or dislike and you should try as much as you can and see for yourself.

What I disagree with is that WDW wouldn't be what it is today without Universal. WDW had already built MK, EPCOT Center and MGM before US opened. I understand that MGM might have been prompted by US coming but that does not mean that something else would not be there instead.

US and IOA are only in Orlando because of WDW. Heck, Orlando would not be what it is if it were not for WDW. Universal was smart, they went to Orlando to piggieback off of WDW. I think both companies benefit from being close to one another, but I don't in any way shape or form think that without Universal WDW would not be what it is today.

But again, everyone should check out US and IOA for themselves. Don't let the masses decide for you if you will like it or not. It is a personal choice.

 Last time I checked even wdwmagic.com has a forum just about Universal. And all because we're Disney fans...doesn't mean we can't be a Universal fans.

In fact those that hate Universal are just afraid of the potential it has. Like I've said Disney will always be Disney...but Universal has shown that they are in Orlando to stay...they are not backing down from WDW and they continue to create rides that compete with Disney's......thats just my opinion.

Here's my $0.02. While we love Disney, but after going 4 times in a row (2 in one year) we opted for Universal. Yes its quite different. That's why we wanted to experience it. Sure it's smaller, and crowded, but it has it's pluses. I have a 7 year old. We enjoyed MIB, Terminator, Jimmy Neutron. Bluto's Bilge Rats, The Seuss theme and Hanna Barbara, Posiedon's Fury, Shrek 4D, plus others. The food in the parks is disappointing except for Lombards in IOA. City Walk has everything to offer in way of food, drinks. The only problem is if you go for one-two days is the wait on lines for the rides. We happened to be staying on property at the Royal Pacific and with our room key were able to by-pass any line and get right in, sometimes came out and went right back on again within minutes. If you do go try to get the Express Pass as soon as you enter. You have to pay for it, but at least you can get on the rides right away.

Have fun whatever you decide.:sohappy:

This is a good example of someone who apparently is unfamiliar with the concept of reading, because this person obviously didn't read what the original post was. The original poster was asking what people thought. Last time I check this was a FORUM, where people exchange ideas and opinions. SHE WAS ASKING FOR OPINIONS!! Who are you to call me out for answering her question? I gave my opinion and as shocking as it may be to you it may be helpful to her. I had one of my trips almost ruined for wasting my time at Universal, there may be others out there that feel the same way, the original poster may end up feeling that way too, you don't know, I don't know. But she wanted opinions and she got them, just because they don't agree with yours is no reason to call other people out or tell her to ignore other people's opinions.
