On the local Orlando lunch time news broadcast 4/16. Universal just announced that on June 1 they will start new hires at $9.50 and hour against the WDW standard of $9.00 and move to $10.00 a year later. They will also give an across the board increase of .50 an hour to current employees at the same time. Still not much for a person to live on but an improvement.

You are aware that Disney implemented this almost a year ago.

$9.50?

Everyone gets paid that? Because I've just been hired for seasonal at WDW this summer, and they told me the starting rate was $9.00. Does the new wage only apply to new hires?
Currently, the starting wage is $9. They can't tell you it's $9.50 in case you happen to start before the increase goes into effect. Once May 24th rolls around, anyone not currently making $9.50 will be bumped up to $9.50 & I think anyone who already makes at least $9.50 gets a $.50 raise.

Like ticket prices, both companies have to keep wages similar, or risk watching people flock to the other resort.
Pay aside, though, as someone who has worked for both companies, I can tell you that Uni treats their TMs much better than Disney does their CMs.
I've never personally worked for the mouse, but I opened IOA and was a 7 year UO TM and my father worked 30 years bw the two (just retired this past Friday). I would generally agree with you based on my work experience and the differences he's clued me into.

That being said, I believe much of the differences in the way ee's are treated can be attributed to most of WDW being unionized while most of UO is not.

Yeah, unions can actually be an issue for those they're meant to protect, but they sometimes are a necessary evil.
