We stayed in the Portifino Bay twice. Both times were outstanding. They give Universal Express as an unlimited pass using your room key at all the hotels. Universal Express is Universal's Fastpass but less people know about it so it's faster. It gives free water taxi rides to CityWalk. If you stay at a Universal hotel, stay at The Portifino, it is a 5-star hotel.

Last year we stayed at the Royal Pacific and really loved it. Great price and great rooms. Actually I found the rooms better than the Beach Club at half the price. We are going again this year and are staying at the Royal Pacific.

I can't wait:sohappy:

I stayed at both the Hard Rock and the Royal Pacific. They were both beautiful hotels at a great value considering you get the express pass for the parks in your package.

If I were to choose between the both of them, I would choose the Royal Pacific over the Hard Rock. IMO, they were a little stuffy over at the Hard Rock, but a lot more family oriented and accomodating at the Royal Pacific.

Heading for the great escape.
I stayed at the Hard Rock last summer and have booked again this year. I got a good rate through the discount club and got a suite for the same price as a room at POR. I think that the guest privelages make it a must if like us you intend to spend a few days at Universal.

The only problem was that my wife wanted to stay at the Royal Pacific this year and the rest of us wanted to go back to the Hard Rock, so as compromise weve had to give up AK lodge so she can have her choice of Wilderness lodge.

We are going the end of June (6/27 - 7/2). Unfortunately we can only go when my son is on vacation, otherwise I would be there either in February or November. Too cold up here!

I stayed at Hard Rock for 3 nights last February during Mardi Gras and my crew had a blast. We would not hesitate to stay there again if going to Universal parks was the focus of our trip. Remember, with a room key from a Universal hotel, you go straight to the front of the line - way cool!

The pool was awesome, but the weather was bad (unseasonably cold and rainy).

I liked the lobby music and really everything about the property. We are building a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino down the road, here in Biloxi, MS that will be open in about 18 months and it will be FINE, too!

I've stayed at Royal Pacific twice and it was great. Between the express line access with your hotel card, and not having to ride a bus to everything (you can walk to anything reasonably, or take the water taxi in)- this is one thing that Disney can't compete with (not to mention the more economical rates!)

Pumbas- you let your wife take Wilderness Lodge over AK Lodge? Ack! I would have done it the other way around!

I've stayed at all3 USO Hotels.
Hotels listed in alphabetical Order:

Hard Rock Hotel: I've stayed here twice and this weekend will be my third. Hotel rooms are great, the club level is even better, food is good and the atmosphere is great, pool is also another plus.

Portofino Bay Hotel: Stayed here twice. Stayed here once for Halloween Horror Nights 12 and then just another family vacation. Very luxurious, very quiet atmosphere, food is ok, best pool of all three hotels

Royal Pacific Hotel: My favorite. Perfect walking distance from USO and IOA. It has good food, great pool, outstanding rooms. This weekend I am staying 2 nights at RP with a package and riding on a Mardi Gras float as one of our options, then staying at HRH for one night

The thing that is great about all three is the fact that you get front of the line pass through all of them. Secondly you get to cruise around on the cool yachts on the way to CityWwalk, I know its lae but I like the music on the yachts :D, and try riding one at night man 'o man is it great and I'm only 15!

But anyway I love these hotels, these are my favorite hotels, of everyone I've stayed at! :D

I've stayed at all 3 many of times. My favorite is the Hard Rock Hotel though. I love their pool, the underwater sound system rocks. I will probably be staying at the Royal Pacific again when I go for the Revenge of the Mummy AP Preview.

while we have never eaten at Tchoup-Tchoup, we have eaten at Jakes American Bar (it may be small but the food was good). What we did was just order appetisers and share. It hit the spot and was less expensive than having 3 meals. We also had lunch, dinner and breakfast at the Islands Dining Room. It's o.k. for breakfast, but found it expensive and not quite up to par as the other restaurants at City Walk. Our next trip at the end of June we might try Tchoup just to see if measures up to other Emeril restaurants. We will be there from 6/27 - 7/2 so we just miss you. Have a great time.
