Universal Has Started Charging $2 for Some Ride Lockers

If you're wondering how someone can end up paying for a locker that is free while not being totally oblivious:

Some of the locker set ups have payment kiosks situated prominently in front of the locker sections. Your attention is drawn to them. There is minimal to no signage indicating the small lockers are free. If you follow the on screen instructions of these kiosks, it gives you only one option: Large Locker - $2. With some of the setups it is not clear that there are two different sizes of lockers. It allows you to pay for a large locker and then still open a small locker with the same ticket that the payment was assigned to.

Trust me, my initial reaction was to think my friends were idiots but it's a totally reasonable mistake for a first time or infrequent visitor to make.
I agree with you, but prepare to be called stupid by the Defenders.

Walk up, show the reader your pass and a locker will pop open. So easy a caveman could do it.
There are two different types of kiosk ticket readers. If you approach the more prominently displayed payment kiosks you get the prompt to pay. If you bypass the kiosk and go to the kiosks that are on the locker walls, a locker will pop open provided you are at the small lockers.

Again there is minimal to no signage informing you of this or any sort of prompt on the payment screen to stop you from paying.

Please find something else to complain about. You are harping on something that is a non - issue.

Hey, where is this? Maybe you can make a thread about bad show??

I don’t know where that is. I’m guessing it’s at Disney because the typical Universal fanboy reaction is to deflect legit criticism of Universal toward Disney.

Maybe be a little less obvious that you work for Universal’s PR department.

I wish I did but you seem to take delight in finding fault with the tiniest things and I feel the need to point out just how petty I find that. You were railing in another thread how the pavement was cracked and they used this same type of screening at uni but if you look around you will see it is everywhere. Huge operations will not please everyone all the time. You have the absolute right to point at things, I have the right to state my opinion about what you do.

And I promise you that the pavement/walkways thoughout Universal looks significantly worse than at Disney and SeaWorld. Like you can knee jerk mock me for complaining about it but if you haven’t taken the time to note this for yourself then you can’t say I’m just nitpicking nothing.

It all adds up toward both Universal parks looking the dirtiest and most run down out of the major Florida parks and yes that includes SeaWorld and Busch.

I complain because I want these companies to live up to what they promise and charge for that promise. They promise and charge for a premium theme park experience, but if I feel the place (outside of Potter) looks tired and run down, then I feel they are not holding up what they advertise. I know the companies scout these forums to see what people are discussing. It can be more effective than writing a complaint email because this is public and they’ll often just give you a canned response and maybe some Fastpasses/Express passes for an email complaint.

And even if you find complaining about the ground to be nitpicking, I also have mentioned many major show quality flaws that are hard to ignore.

I equally criticize Disney too but you guys don’t seem to leave this forum to see it so for whatever reason you go into defense mode at Universal’s defense.

Why do you care so much that people are upset over this? It seems to me that YOU are the one who should move on.

Let me start out by saying that I love Universal Studios, or at least I did until my recent trip on Monday, March 3, 2014. I have been to Universal at least twenty times. I honeymooned at Universal Studios. I have Universal stock. I never ever thought I would ever write a complaint letter to the “theme park nearest Disney World“. Granted, I have not been in a few years. There have been lots of changes at Universal, and most of them are not good. The reason I have not gone in a few years is that I have been busy having children, an adorable little Prince who is 2 years old, named Bart, and my 5-month old little Princess Maggie. I also have a twelve year old princess, Lisa. We are a big family. We paid lots of money for our tickets.

The charge of parking has gone up. It is $25.00 and it was $20.00. I think that's ridiculous.

The first thing I noticed from the walkway is that there is no castle (hmmmm, not very magical). Once inside the park the walkways are cracked!!!! It is ugly, not magical at all. There were two cast members blocking the way who rudely told us we could go in another direction - which is very un-magical. The cast members could clearly see that Bart was crying because all he wanted to do was see Minions and meet Gru. They didn't do anything!!!! In fact, they just looked disgusted that we were bothering them and now my annoying kid was crying. They didn't say, "Don't worry, you'll see Gru later." or offer to escort him in back themselves, or tell us where we could meet or see Gru later, or even say "I'm sorry, little prince, please don't cry!" So basically, we were there for less than fifteen minutes and my little Bart is crying. So we went in the back way, stopped at the rest rooms, and saw that we now had to pay for lockers, which also wasn’t magical. Who pays for lockers? Terrible!

At lunchtime, we went to Harry Potter Land but we were so put off by the lack of theming of the grates in Diagon Alley. At this point we were so annoyed with how bad we were treated and how offended we were by the cracked pavement and not-free lockers that we just went home!

Un-Magical!

Well yeah that concrete does look pretty bad, just as it does throughout the entire resort.

That signage was not present or prominent at every locker location. And it's only in English. I see a heck of a lot of foreign tourists paying for lockers that didn't need to be.
