If that was the case what would Gator fans wear to their football games? Jorts are practically standard-issue for UF fans.

True, but Gainesville is sort of like its own little universe. There are many, many rules that are completely different over there in Alachua.
For example, possession of bow ties and croakies is considered a first degree misdemeanor in neighboring jurisdictions, but in Gainesville, they're basically standard issue.
