Cancelled VR ride, apparently searching for an obscurus in Paris with the Fantastic Beasts characters.

Is that f&f poster real?
It’s not just real but it’s the image they use on the attraction page for both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida.

I went on it twice. Once because it was new and the second time to show friends who didn’t believe how bad it was. Now I pretend it doesn’t exist and I get sad when I have to walk through the queue during Hhn.

Should also be acknowledged that France is one of eleven (!!!) pavilions, lol.

One of four lands in a 2025 theme park built nearly a half-century later should be better! It would be kinda bad if it wasn’t!

With decades of maintenance and updates, France at Epcot should be better than what it is.

Yet it's not.

I'm not sure the France pavilion and the HP area at EU are really comparable.

The HP area is going to be larger and presumably more impressive visually, but it isn't attempting to showcase actual France. It is designed roughly like 1920s Paris, but it's like real France the way Diagon Alley is like real England.

I highly doubt any of the food they serve will be as good/authentic as the food in the France pavilion at EPCOT, e.g. (to be clear, I'm not suggesting the food at EPCOT is exceptionally good/authentic, just that I wouldn't expect the offerings at EU to be even as good as what's at EPCOT).

It's not even attempting to be a showcase for actual France.

True — more an emphasis on butterbeer crepes, huh? The weird plate with pierogies looks yummy but not French.

I actually disagree but I think it’s one of the disappointing things about the land. It looks like Universal has done a fantastic job building Paris, but it seems like it lacks the surrealism and fantastical nature that Hogsmeade and Diagon have. Part of what makes Diagon so incredible is how unlike London it is. Wizarding Paris, on the other hand, is a (really good) Paris with some cutesy paint.

Isn't that mainly due to the source material? They copied Diagon Alley from the films (at least to an extent) and although I've never seen Fantastic Beasts I assume they tried to copy from those films as well. If the magical areas of Paris looked basically the same as other parts of Haussmann Paris, I suppose it makes sense the land looks that way as well.

That said, it's still full of magical shops etc. that you wouldn't see in normal Paris.
