Don't judge times by today. Park had a a more restricted cap. Much of the fanatic audience is there to buy merch and crowd patterns wild.

Friday thru Sunday will give a better idea gojng forward of what we are in for and weeks after that even more.

Also fair to consider that the "die hard" fans have already gone through much of the previews which will help keep lines pretty reasonable. I'd venture to guess that a huge portion of the guests at the park today already went during the previews and are mostly there for the bragging rights of being there opening day (along with the exclusive opening day events/entertainment and merch).

Universal must be satisfied with the attendance currently, otherwise they would have opened the option for pass holders to add on EU to their AP and/or started offering multi-day passes with park hopping privileges which include EU. Until that happens, every single person you see in the park paid $140-$200 just to go through the gate for that one day. I (personally) would hold out on making any judgements based on queue times alone until both APs can add on EU and EU is included with all multi-day tickets w/ park hopping.

FWIW, as of this posting, there is a digital queue (short, but still) to buy EU tickets which seems a very positive sign.

Catching up…

When we visited Hogsmeade in June 2010 during opening week, we ran into Tony Baxter, Kevin Kidney, Jody Daily, and Stacia Martin. They were all having a great time and we pointed out some details they missed. I’m not surprised Tony showed up for the new park.

Rope-dropping Isle of Berk is gonna be a thing as long as ride ops struggles at opening. We rope dropped Berk on our second day and immediately headed to the Toothless Meet & Greet. But getting a couple cycles on Hiccup’s Winged Gliders would also work.

I didn’t do the livestream last night because we were watching the day’s Giro di Italia stage and I was wondering if I would regret that. Looks like that was a good call.

I’m so happy the park is open and can’t wait until APs can visit whenever. Although, I am stuck in CO. My Dad can’t stop talking about going back and trying more food.

Now that the park has been handed over, budgets reset, I’m curious to see what changes get made in the first few months. We’re going back (and DH’s first visits on 9/3 and 9/5). It’s crazy that we only expected to visit one day, for previews and post opening, and we already consider it a 2-day park, to give each of the portals their proper due. My Dad isn’t a big Nintendo fan so we didn’t spent as much time there as the others, saving it for when DH is there. And I can’t wait for him to go up the warp pipe!

Except, previews being previews not everything is necessarily working. Just taking the preview I went to on 5/13 (I'm not going today) as an example:
  • Curse of the Werewolf -- Closed
  • Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry -- Closed
  • Fyre Drill -- Intermittent. Down for a good portion of the day
  • Mario Kart Bowser's Challenge - "Delayed" (i.e. it was basically closed)
  • The Untrainable Dragon -- Toothless "was on an adventure" (i.e. The portion of Hiccup riding Toothless overhead did not occur while the background effects were still running. Felt odd). Also at the final reveal of the "untrainable" dragon, they had to reset. It didn't work. It was like a "Take 2".
So, if you didn't experience these things you might be inclined to return on opening day. I got a good feel for it and have plans to come back next March.

I do think the fact that Battle at the Ministry was opened the least during previews is playing a role in why that was in such demand today as I suspect a good chunk of the crowd has already done the other rides multiple times, but maybe not BatM at all and why that has the bulk of the line
