Ok, so I'm walking out of a movie tonight and I look up at some movie banners on the way out, and there it is. Coming soon: Peter Pan.

I thought, "awesome!" and then went over for a closer look. The very bottom of the poster reads this:

Columbia Pictures / Universal Studios

Now, you'll have to excuse me. I'm a little slow. My guess is that Peter Pan is a fable from a time before Disney existed, and therefore, Disney cannot own the rights to the story itself.

Anyone?

Disney owns the rights to Peter Pan for animation not any other media forms.

Honestly, Peter Pan is my Favorite all time Disney movie and when I first heard someone else was making a live action version I was thinking this was going to be stupid. But after I saw the trailer on the big screen, I am more excited about this movie than any other movie coming out this year. I personally think it looks more faithful to the source material than any other attempt before.

:sohappy: I can't wait for this movie!!!:sohappy:

I'm not sure about the copyrights that disney has or needs for some of the animated fetures produced over the years but several titles that disney did as animation have been made by other studios as live action such as a version of cinderrella and the Pinochio feature with the middle son from Home Improvement

So it seams that they have animation rights only, makes sense to me seeing that these other features are live action

Casting sucks

Movie will bomb

Universal you are the stupidest production company to date ;)

Nothing beats Hook..

Jason Isaacs should be great as Hook. If he is, this movie will make money. I'm not talking Pirates money, but I think it'll turn a profit after overseas and video releases, and maybe before that.

For those that don't know, Isaacs is Lucious Malfoy in the Harry Potter Movies. He's been good in everthing I've seen him in. I have high hopes for this movie. Hopefully, it won't disappoint.

Cheers

Edit: I did a search, and it was written as a play, not a book. Here you can read a bit about its origins, which I found interesting

There do seem to be some sticky copywrite issues, as the British sites are wary of mentioning P.P. at all.

Wonder why. They do have a statue in London of Peter. In fact, Wendy is being naughty.

Disney only has got copyright on the figures not the story itself...
Thus the Columbia version of Peter Pan hasn't got anything to do with the Disney version(s) ... I wouldn'd be surprised at all if it's a cheapy and crappy version...

They did the same thing a some years ago with cheapy animated versions of pinnochio on video, which were an absolute turn off.
Shure... Pinnochio looked like Pinnochio... but all wooden figures with a long growing nose look like pinnochio...
So.. there going to try it again... Bet ya, it won't bring them the success they want...

I saw a trailer for this before "Seabiscuit" last weekend. Granted, it's only one trailer, but it didn't look "cheap," "crappy," or poorly-cast to me at all. I found the trailer delightfully intriguing myself.

We'll know when we know, tho.

I didn't see the trailer...but still, I don't think it's going to make it...
Just my opinion...

This is how I feel about the movie! I am totally biased when I come to movies, but when I saw this, I shocked all of my friends when I said I really wanted to see it.... "a Universal movie???... Really?!"

I dont think it's going to be a hit, but I'll go see it.... I really enjoy the story of Peter Pan!

Doesn't anybody remember the Peter Pan and the Pirates animated series that used to be on Fox in the early 90's? It was very high quality stuff for its time period and took a very different, darker spin on the story. Voice acting was top-notch, too, with Tim Curry as Captain Hook.
