Looks a little smaller in scale compared to the other resorts. Not shocking since Texas...isn't exactly a top tourist destination.

Dallas isn't a tourist destination, but Texas has huge tourist destinations along the Gulf Coast and in and around Austin and San Antonio
I know there's four Six Flags parks (unsurprising since Texas is where Six Flags first began) and a SeaWorld in San Antonio but I can't think of anything else that's super noteworthy there (apart from the landmarks like the Alamo and such).

Now Disney need to follow suit and build a similar, family park in that area based around four themed lands:
Pixar land, Star Wars Land, Fantasy Land and Avengers Campus.

Its things like this that create tourism...no one was going to central Florida prior to Disney.
The thing is its the 4th largest metro area in the USA. Plus a 3-4 drive from Austin/Houston.

Not in Texas, though. Would be funny if they decided to revisit Flagstaff, Arizona again after Walt snubbed them when building Disneyland.
Local population will prevent that. DFW and Texas would provide more people in the surrounding area to go to the park ala Disneyland.
Universal saw something in their recon work to warrant this build in North Texas.

One interesting thing about this, IMO, is that "younger family" demo has been Universal's weak spot in terms of the reasons people say they aren't interested in Universal. Overcoming that perception could have implications for the bigger parks, if they figure out what works and implement it.

Also, interesting is just the entire concept of "3rd US Resort," like we've thrown around with Disney. Disney has not had much success with their regional projects. Legoland NY, and now these Universal projects. It will be curious to see if they find the key to success.

I'm excited for more regional theme park style opportunities.

DH has also noted that the location is apparently 2 exits away from FC Dallas' stadium, so he is apparently already thinking road trip...

Strange concept but not necessarily a bad idea. Seems strange that Universal would want to get involved in more regional entertainment since that could end up diluting resources and confusing their brand goals... But maybe it could work?
