hello all,
Our family is ready to move past Disney for awhile as we feel they are kind of "coasting" at the moment. Question I had about universal is, do they ever offer discounts for trips like Disney does? Are there ever free meal plans, kids stay/play free? Just wondering. Thanks in advance

You can check the Universal Orlando Resort website for any package deals they offer. Since they don't have the same type of dining plan Disney offers, they don't offer free dining. Sometimes the package offers include a free meal (usually breakfast), but it's usually just one meal over the course of your stay. They often have a special savings that discounts the room rate when you stay a certain number of nights. Universal is, in general, a less expensive vacation to begin with, including dining. Annual Passholders in general get 35% off hotel rates an 10-15% in-park discounts.

Not that I have seen, but Uni is a much cheaper trip for me anyway. If you are planning to go more than 3 or 4 days a year, have one member get an annual pass. Then they can buy discounted tickets for the rest of the party.

If the onsite hotels are too pricey, there are some very reasonable ones close by. I usually stay at the Doubletree near the Entrance for $90 a night.

Food in the parks, hotels and citywalk is very reasonable. I enjoy great meals without paying a huge theme park mark up.

Check with http://orlandoinformer.com/page/articles.html/_/universal/center, they do travel and know Universal as well as anyone does. There are travel packages, AP discounts, A prix-fixe meal at the better restaurants ($33 - real bargain) and other odds and ends that they can fill in the details for you. I don't work for them but do like what they do. Travel planning for free from those who know the park/resorts cannot be beat

I bought my park tickets from Undercover Tourist to save a few bucks. I also booked Cabana Bay via Cheaptickets.com when they had a discount when booking through their site. Worked perfectly and saved some $$$.

As long as you have an AP, you you get great discounts. Universal is WAY cheaper than Disney- remember, NOTHING Disney offers is "free"- you're paying for it somewhere. "free dining" is the biggest scam disney has, it's just ridiculous to think they're giving something for nothing.
