According to the CM who led my Keys to the Kingdom tour two weeks ago, this isn't true. He said that CM's wear their own underwear, and that if they wear a wig or headpiece it is assigned only to that CM and never switched around. They DO share things like shirts, dresses, trousers, etc. He said that new rules allow CM's to take those items home, too, and to launder them themselves. So I think the article may have over-dramatized a little bit. Disney used to be very protective about costumes and never allowed them outside of WDW (they don't want you to see Peter Pan in the supermarket) and that is what has changed.

We were even sharing SOCKS so I'm surprised no one was getting athlete's foot or something equally as disgusting as lice or scabies. :hurl: Not only that, but a lot of the time, you weren't able to find the proper garments because the costuming simply could not keep up with the laundry demands, and wound up wearing goodness knows what. First, I felt bad because the performers and characters have to wear those costumes in the extreme heat. But sharing dirty underwear? I don't even wear my own dirty underwear! As Joe Boxer says: "Change Daily!" :animwink:

I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour in '03 and, while discussing costuming, our tour guide told us that "underwear sharing" just does not happen. It wouldn't be sanitary.
