Quick question....
Do any fellow brits know about using a british phone in Florida, i.e Internet charges etc
Slightly worried about cost as a few people have said for me to use the Uber App to travel around the area.... However I have been told o2 (my provider) charge £5 per day for data use.. which will be expensive for a 3 week holiday

As long as you are on property, WDW offers free WiFi that covers almost all of the theme parks and resorts. Just turn off your data roaming and use that while in the parks.

Then you pay the daily charge? You can buy pay as you go SIMs in the US to use, but that would require you getting to a location that sells them, and I think that even a small amount of data would end up costing you the same if you paid the daily charge 3 or 4 times.

Thinking about it... I am sure there will be free Wi-Fi on International Drive wouldn't there?
No consistently.
I drive does not have a property wide wifi like WDW. What you will find is wif-fi at individual stores and restaurants along with random hot spots. It is still usable in a pinch, but you are not going to be able to really walk down I-drive and maintain a single wi-fi connection like you can at WDW.

@marni1971 can probably help.

As said above, don’t bank on public WiFi on the streets although many establishments will offer it.

In the parks Uni and Seaworld have far better coverage than they used to. Disney parks works but is often overloaded.

We don’t tend to do voice calls unless using VOIP. Although one phone does have an EE add on for cellular for Emmergencies.

Generally we find WiFi between the airport, parks, place of abode and coffee / breakfast places / malls to suffice.

It may be less expensive to by one of the "throw away" phones somewhere when you arrive.
Walmart would have inexpensive phones that would probably work. Dollar General has Tracphones plans starting at $15. A Trac Phone would probably be your best route to go since they are pay as you go type set up!

We discovered just how easily a 10 year old can change any setting on a phone on one trip, luckily we a) discovered it after a couple of days and b) the damage was not too great (and the phone provider waived most of the cost anyway - as they had assured DH data usage would be blocked at a fairly low point, and it wasn't).

So we now only allow wifi usage, and avoid any voice calls (unless in dire emergency). Text only outside the parks/resorts.

My threats of phone confiscation still works, even tho they are now technically adults (and eldest pays his own bills) But the whole thing is still guaranteed to get me in a panic, so I don't use my phone at all (bar an emergency)

That sounds like an expensive touch of a button!!!
I think i will put my phone in airplane mode and only connect via WiFi

I think it was about £120 in total, but we only had to pay about £50 because DH had an email confirming they had put that limit on. Apparently someone didn't think to apply it to data, just calls and texts.

Lesson learned lol!

3 network is the same here as there.
We bought a PAYG 3 phone - £30 (our 10 year old was desperate to have his own phone so he had it after that )
They have a bolt on 200 mins 200 texts and 1GB data for £10
So for £40 we had google maps and calls home and calls to my sister who was in the park and texts galore to organise meet ups - and we have the phone for next time
With so much wifi the 1GB was more than enough and we had memory make but the phone worked as a camera too for a few candid shots

We are normally O2 and left our phones switched off in the safe
