So, I sit here, less than a week out from our trip, trying to get all of our last minute things together. I was planning on going to work today and then doing some more clothes shopping, put together my first aid kit, and get DD4's stuff together for BBB. Instead- I am sitting at home with DD2 waiting for the dr's office to open so I can beg them to work her in. After a whopping 3 hrs of sleep- I'm pretty certain she has an ear infection. So, now tack on trying to get her better so she's cleared for travel as part of my last minute planning details. :hammer:Sorry- I had to vent.

24 hours on an antibiotic and she should be good to go. I definitely feel your pain...I'm going next week too and walking on eggshells (probably not eh right expression!) hoping everyone stays healthy! Good luck!

Glad I'm not the only one that worries about that before Our trips...We already had the day at celebration Hopital (which is very nice by the way) couple years ago after our oldest could not stop vomiting and everything else that goes along with it....Yeah after a nice dose of an IV or as she called it back then an ID she was like a new kid! But yes thats always a big concern, hope all goes well.....and stay healthy !!!

My two kids were on antibiotics for only 24 hours before our flight to Orlando last year and their ears did not hurt at all on the flight! You should be fine. Have a great trip!:sohappy:

Oh no good luck!!! At least you have a a few days to get her better! Flying with ear issues is the worst! My poor DS last year was just getting over an ear infection and cried in pain when we were landing from the pressure!!! Sending pixie dust your way for a steady recovery for your DD!

Part of the panic comes from DD4's ear infection experiences. Twice we've had her pediatrician not clear us for air travel due to ear infections. This is the first trip in 4 years where I've passed on all travel insurance b/c I refused to entertain the idea of anything getting in the way. (I know- foolish me). SO.....

The bad news...DD2's ear is infected.
The semi bad news...the dr wants her on one of the super pricey antibiotics. :( I won't really complain b/c I know the stuff works and...
The good news :) - the dr gave me a good coupon for the meds...and...
The great news- DD2 has been cleared for air travel. :sohappy:

And while I'm burning my last full sick day left for the year- I got so many of my trip related errands done this morning before heading to the dr that I might even be able to take the girls to see Tangled this afternoon after DD2 wakes from her nap.

Thanks for all of the positive thoughts and well wishes. The girls loved Tangled and DD2 didn't fuss for a second, so hopefully the meds are already starting to do their work.

I was just there last week staying in a cabin in Fort Wilderness when my 10 year old got sick and unfortunately we didn't get to do too much so I understand your concern. I am just thankful my 9 year old didn't complain too much. I hope your child is better for your trip.

First off- welcome to the boards  It's so tough when kids get sick, but to have it happen while on the road can be such a nightmare. I hope your 10 yr old is feeling better. Thankfully, DD2 slept through the night last night- always a good sign. :sohappy:

Good Luck! We leave next week as well and I'm crossing my fingers my little one stays healthy.

BTW, did you make that Buche de Noel in your avatar? DH talked me into making one last year after seeing Guy Fieri's DL Holiday special, but we didn't get nearly as creative. I'm going to have to try something like that this year!

for years i worked in daycare, onr of the worse WDW stories i heard, was when a family had daughter break out with chicken pox day before leaving. air line would not fly them home. they were stuck another week beore she was cleared to fly. they were also confined to room , no parks. they were sure glad to get home. at least, you have time to get yours ready for the trip at home.

Glad everything seemed to work out. I am 25 and STILL get horrible ear infections now. I pretty much constantly have tubes in my ears and when they aren't in there, I have an infection. So I can feel the pain here, literally!

I don't want to go dolling out medical advice here( as it is NOT my place and I'm not a doctor but a speech language pathologist) but something that works for me, is just taking a decongestant before getting on the plane. Whether it be a squirt of Afrin or taking a Sudafed or something. Always check with the doc obviously, but my ENT has always recommended this for me as it tends to help the eustachian tube clear and help the ear 'pop' instead of build up pressure!

Enjoy your trip!! :)

My avatar is actually DD2's most recent bday cake (a side hobby of mine). It's hard to catch the detail in the small avatar photos, but it's a log w/ gumpaste Tink on a leaf w/sparkly buggies. I wish TInk looked more like Disney Tink, but I promised myself I would not use a mold for her. The log was sculpted from several layered/filled rectangular cakes. It's a chocolate raspberry pound cake with white chocolate raspberry filling. I'm all for trying new baking challenges - so I say try the Buche de Noel! Here's a larger photo...

Wow- Chicken Pox - that's awful! Yeah- we're very thankful that (so far) we're not dealing with anything like that for this trip. Hopefully, nobody will hurt themselves during our annual holiday campout this weekend.

We usually give them a dose of Children's Claritin before we leave for the airport and some saline up the nose...since the options are pretty limited for a 2 and 4 yr old. :( I also give them sippy cups right at take off and landing since that can help keep ears unclogged. DD4 was pretty close to needing tubes at about 9mos, but thankfully the intensity and frequency of her infections decreased at this point. Sounds like your ENT has the right ideas!

You did a great job! That sounds delicious.

The Buche de Noel turned out well, but just looked like a log on a plate. This year I'm going to borrow your decorating idea. Thanks!
