U.S. Postal Service to launch Disney Stamps

For the stamps to be Disney-Calibur I expected them to be a bit more, uh, I don't know, aesthetically pleasing??

I do like them though. I like to see them using classic well-loved characters instead of new ones.

NO SHREK STAMP!!

No, No ! Not an Eisner stamp. That would be a waste of 37 cents. It wouldn't deliver ... :D

An Eisner stamp will always be around but never be there when you need it. Will serve great purposes except the purpose it was intended for. Would be great to look at but useless to talk to and the glue on the back would be great, you would never be able to remove it... :hammer:

Let's stick to "real" Disney characters... hehe

Hilarious!!

If Eisner were to die today, his picture couldn't get on a US stamp for 25 years (that's why it took so long for an Elvis stamp to be made).

I would all hope that no one would care about Eisner 25 years after he died!!

With that though, has there ever been a US issued stamp of Walt himself?

Unless I am wrong the standard wait time for a person to be put on US postage stamps is 7 years, unless they waive that for someone of great stature such as Reagan.

Walt has been on a postage stamp, Scott #1355 which came out in 1968, although many foreign countries have done a wide variety of Disney stamps the USPS decision to wait until now to release Disney character stamps is long overdue, IMO

We were both wrong! 10 years unless the person is a president at which their 1st birthday after their death they get a stamp.

Q. Why does the United States of America put only dead people on stamps when other countries picture people who are still living?

A. Each of the world's stamp-issuing nations has its own set of rules governing selection of subjects for stamps. The United States does not consider putting an individual on a stamp sooner than 10 years following his or her death. The exception is former Presidents of the United States, each of whom is honored with a memorial stamp on the first birthday following their death. The United States believes the impact of a person's life cannot be assessed until it has ended and that at least 10 years after death are required to make a fair evaluation. Most historians would agree that this is a sound policy.

Thats great news, I shall buy them and use them and keep them. I will talk my sister into using them for her wedding invitations.

Shrek??? Disney Stamp?? :hammer:

Uh, I don't think Shrek will be on a "Disney" stamp since it's not a Disney movie or character. :)

The set out now is the "friendship" set. Next year's is "celebration." I think there will be four sets total.

Wow, I had no idea that Disney stamps were released. I guess that is what I get for never actually entering a post office and just buying stamps from the grocery or quick dispenser outside the post office. I guess I will have to check it out.

Do you know when they will be released for purchase?
I bought them on their release date last time, and I saved the reciept. i plan on doing it for all four, and then framing and matting them.
