two resort same stay suggestions

Ok we have never switched resorts in the middle of a trip but thinking about doing it next Oct trip.

Our home resort is Beach Club. But I have some questions for you DVC experts.

Our original plan was for 10 nights in a 1 br. But as I was thinking more about the booking of our trip I want to stay at another resort possibly. I was thinking of doing a few nights (4) at bay lake studio MK view. I know I have to wait til the 7 month window option for Baylake. But the kicker is I can stay for 11 nights if I get baylake. 4 at BL studio, and 7 at BCV 1BR. due to pt differences.

So my question is what I am thinking the best way to try to get these resies.

Book 10 nights at the BCV 1 Br at my 11 month window. (I will be using borrowed points for this also.)

Then at my 7 month window call and try to switch resie to get 4 of those nights at baylake, preferably in the the begining of the stay but can be either end really. Then if I get it then try and add the extra night to the beach club 1 br, or I guess an extra night at baylake if its in the rear of the stay.

I know the easiest would be to make the 11 night reservation but I don't have enough points for that about 5 pts short. But I can make an 11 night studio reservation, but I don't think a 1 br will be available at my 11 month window to upgrade to.

Also with using borrowed pts am I able to switch my reservation at that 7 month window.

We will really be happy either way, but just trying to mix it up. I think I have a grasp on the reservation, but just wanted your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks my fellow DVC'ers

ADR's can be an issue

We're doing this for our upcoming Christmas trip. We're staying at BLT - in a Bay Lake view for the first part, and then moving across the hall to a Magic Kingdom view for the latter half, including Christmas Eve.

I will tell you that when I made ADR's, I was told that they consider this two seperate vacations. And accordinly, ADR's can only be made 90 days in advance for each separate trip. So I was not allowed to make ADR's for my entire stay 90 days prior to arrival - only for the first part of my stay. I had to wait 90 days prior to the move to the second room, in order to make those ADR's.

I understand *why* this is the policy; I don't believe it's a very wise policy.

Regardless, I just thought you might appreciate the "heads up" if you are one to book your ADR's early.

Good Luck!

Now that we have a kid, I don't know if we'd be inclined to do it again any time soon (not until she can repack and unpack herself, LOL). But we've done it. The first time technically doesn't count - it was a week at Saratoga Springs followed by 3 nights at Hilton Head (and after the first night at Hilton Head, we paid out of pocket for an upgrade to a 1BR). The second time, it was all at WDW - 7 nights in a studio at Wilderness, followed by 3 nights in a 1BR Standard view at Boardwalk. It gave us a chance to experience different resorts, and different ways to get to the parks besides just a bus (ferry service to MK, walking and boat service to Epcot and the Studios). We tried to be cognizant in our planning, so those last few days, we spent more time at the 2 parks closest, and we spent a lot of time in MK during that first week. Not needing as much nap time as my wife, I took advantage by going to parks while she slept in the afternoon, experiencing attractions she was less interested in seeing herself, while still being close enough to zip back when she woke up. And having the 1BR allowed us to pack less and do laundry without having to spend an afternoon hovering in or near a laundry room. In fact, when we checked out, everything was clean except the pajamas we wore the night before checkout!

As I said before, I don't know if/when we'll do it again, but were to try it, I'd probably be more inclined to try two separate resorts again, rather than move from one room to another. If you're going to pack again, may as well go for a slightly different experience. However, if we were moving because we'd need more space (for example - starting off in a studio, then moving into a 2BR because family is coming to join us after our own arrival) then I could see wanting to stay in one place. A scenario like that, you might get lucky and get rooms that are locked-off 2BR villas, so when the rest of your party arrives, you can just open up the door.

oh, here's a suggestion - book your 10 nights at BCV, and pay for one room out of pocket. Technically it's 2 separate reservations. Don't book airfare just yet, if you can. When you get to your 7 month window, if you can get your BLT studio, great, you can cancel your one night paid in cash, get a refund, readjust your 10 nights to a 7 night trip, and book your airfare or plan travel otherwise.

The disadvantage to this, of course, is if you can't get the BLT at the 7 month window. I forget the deadline for cancelling a trip and getting a refund (could you afford that 11th night if you had to pay for it?), but you'll have to make a decision as to whether you want to keep trying to get into BLT, whether you want to cancel that last night, or plan to suck up that last night's cost.

We're staying 5 nights At BWV in a Boardwalk view two bedroom beginning New years Eve and then 4 nights at BLT in a one bedroom MK view, and I couldnt get the 90 plus ten online or by calling the Dining number, so I called Member Services and got my 90 plus ten for the entire trip, they were able to link it somehow, so we got what we wanted.

I would suggest calling them if you have a problem

Let me make sure I have everything straight

Your home resort is BWV

You can 'afford' 10 nights at BWV OR 7 nights at BWV and 4 at BLT.

I don't see what the problem is.

Book 10 nights at BWV as soon as you can (11 months out)

At 7 months out try to get your 4 days at BLT. If you get them, adjust your BWV reservation to 7 nights.

If you get wait listed at BLT then hang on as long as you can.

The only problem I see is airfare. The date you need to book airfare is going to be that day you need to pull the trigger on where you are staying. If you want to leave your options open, then you would have to do the one day cash thing Slappy said.

In fact you do have one other option. You could borrow the 5 points you need from next year, and book that one day. If you need to cancel that day, then you need to make sure you use the 5 points you borrowed, and then bank 5 from this year to use next year.
