Fossil fuels will run out…why would UAE try to make focus on tourism as a future lead generating their economy?

This is a great idea, but they don’t need to destroy plot of land of nature to develope solar panel when they can convert the parking lots?
Is it a plot of land of nature though?
I look at what they started with and see it as farmland that has been worked for many years. It was logged, dug, burned and recontoured and planted over the years. Not much difference other than carbon sequestration. The math would be complex to decide if the savings on power generation by other sources is greater than manufacturing, installing, loss of habitat, etc, etc so maybe but you can't deny the PR value and that is what drives Disney today

Running out of fossil fuels isn't really the concern. There are other, far more pressing reasons to replace them with other kinds of energy.
I'm glad I'm old. That ship has sailed and the downward spiral has begun.
Sorry kids we squandered the earth.
Is it the 22nd yet?

The very sad thing about this is that they could put the solar panels on twelve foot arrays over their parking lots areas and they'd have an easy 600 acres of solar panels without deforestation. That would also provide coveted shade for said cars. But that would cost a bit more money, and thus they hit their virtue quota in the cheapest way possible that probably is a net negative for the environment.

I wonder how many animals and trees are permanently evicted from a thousand lush acres of Central Florida undeveloped land?

Absolutely sad, hypocritical. Another poorly thought damaging P.R. stunt. Not interested in maximizing and the multipurpose use of available space. Increased cost in todays dollars would be pennies, if anything, versus the destruction of habitat.

I think the main issue with the parking lot covering idea is the cost. The higher the panels are mounted off of the ground the higher wind forces they must be able to withstand. Therefore, over a parking lot you need stronger supports which are also taller thus making them more expensive.

The pros are you are using already cleared land and providing shade to the parked cars. I guess Disney could just add $10 to the parking fee to pay for the additional cost. It will be Parking+.

I really thought I had heard that the Solar farm Disney has, well the panels follow the sun -- I doubt they could do this as a car shade -- so I imagine they get at least 30% more sun light than they would with a fixed panel.

The large farm they have looks as if it was placed on land that was already void of trees. I do not know if they are clearing land for the two new farms.

Why would it be possible to mount a motor a few feet above the ground and not a few more feet above the ground?
