Okay, so have y'all seen the new HP digital photo commercials? I can't really explain them, but the special effects they use I think is too cool.

I remember seeing that commercial the first time and was freaked out by it. It was almost a little too wierd for me, but I love them now. Not only do they have that version, but they have like 5 other commercials that use the same effect. Very nicely done HP!

Are you talking about the ones with the picture frames? They use a technique called tracking. They take a still image from one of the film frames and track it into the picture frame the actor is holding. They then transition to the live action plate and repeat. It's a cool shot but I feel bad for the compositor.
