Does anyone know if Tusker House is changing just part of the restaraunt to character dining and still keep the counter service? And do does anyone know when this is taking place?
Thanks!:)

Nope. Lots of people asking, but nobody yet is telling. Last I heard it's still the Tusker House we all know and love with no dates yet to ruin it.

Me too. There has been no update on the news as it appeared here:

2 November 2006: Tusker House to become Character Buffet

The Tusker House restaurant in Harambe is being prepared for some significant changes. It is expected that the restaurant will change from a counter service to a character buffet dining experience. The conversion seems to be reasonably permanent, as plans call for the registers to be removed. Whilst this plan looks certain to go ahead, remember that until officially confirmed, it should be treated as speculation.

I've wondered about this, too. I would really hate to see TH go the way of character dining. That's nothing against character dining because I enjoy that. But I really love eating at TH. :slurp:

I have nothing against character meals, but TH is my hands-down favorite counter-service joint on-property. You know how so many of us like to plan ahead? Well, I saw Food Network's "Unwrapped" episode on WDW restaurants, they had a segment on the rotisserie chicken on TH, and I immiediately knew, I had to have some of that damn chicken. Great size portions, really tasty mashed potato and veggie sides (eh, the sides are probably soaked in butter to make them tasty and counteract any nutritional value they have, but I liked 'em), IMHO one of the overall best meals on-property. And I'd hate to have to pay 3 times what I used to pay to get it just so I can eat while watching Baloo cavort with crying children who'd rather be at the Magic Kingdom.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't choose Restaurantasaurus (sp?). They already have one character meal every day, it's closer to things kids would dig (literally, isn't it right next to the Boneyard?), and it's reasonaly close to two of the most popular fastpass attractions (E:E & Dinosaur). Seems like it'd be an ideal place to sit and enjoy a meal while waiting for your FP window to begin, or before or after the kids exhaust themselves in the Boneyard.

I also saw that episode that is how I found out about Tusker House. And I agree, that is one of my favorite places to eat. My mom loves the roasted chicken. You really cant get a meal like that for that price anywhere else in Disney World.

I'm sorry to hear this if in fact it's true. I love a good character buffett at least once every trip, but I tend to stay with the "classic" locales, ie: Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace.

Tusker House is one of my favorite counter service spots in all of WDW, personally, I'd like it to stay just how it is.
