We have most of our dining planned for our trip, but we will be in AK at lunchtime once, and were trying to figure out where to eat, Flame Tree or Tusker House. We've checked out the menus on both, and still can't decide. Looking over the dining posts everyone seems divided too, so we thought we'd leave it up to you guys and girls with a poll. If you could only grab a bite at one, which one would it be, and why? Thanks in advance!

The only thing that would push Flame Tree above Tusker House for me is the location. I love sitting outdoors under the trees (even when it is damn hot), especially the area right by the water with a clear view of Expedition Everest.

Other than that, the food is even.

Location v. Food

Tusker House has the nearby Dawa Bar which is a nice place to sit outside and eat. If you eat a extremely late lunch or early dinner (4PM) and are at the Dawa Bar you can watch the Jamin' Jungle Parade go by there TWICE!

Haven't been to Flame Tree, but we love Tusker House. My DH & kids get the roasted chicken dinner and I always get the salmon... can't believe those are counter service meals. :slurp:

That's a tough call. I agree the small garden area outside Flame Tree is spectacular. I think the food at Tusker is just a bit better (but they are both solid). I would say either would be fine. Tusker House does have a bit more of an "eclectic" menu, so check with any picky eaters coming with you.

Flame Tree in order to sit outside by the little pond :)

The menus are very different - this ain't Magic Kingdom ;) so it's not just down to the location of where you are going to eat your burgers or chicken strips. Both places serve great grub and you will have a fine time at each.

If you are a desert type person you could split between them - main course at Flame Tree then stroll over to Tusker and grab something from the bakery there.

Flame Tree is great if you like Bar-B Que
Tuskerhouse has a better all around menu.
We eat at both, but I prefer Flametree for the relaxing atmosphere and the views

Ok guys well what if I order food from Tusker and sit under the trees at Flame Tree? lol

You COULD do that...but your food would be cold by the time you got there.
You'ld be buying your food in Africa...then eating it in Asia. hehehe

I'm clearly in the minority on this, but I always thought the BBQ was too salty.

It is a little salty (somewhat by design), but I wonder if you just hit it on a bad day. Usually I end up adding a little salt. Have you had it more than once?

Since I usually get the BBQ chicken, and I usually peel away the skin anyway, it doesn't taste salty to me. I some time wish they get better corn, though.

I picked Flame Tree mainly for the nice dining area down by the water. The character boat usually comes by there quite often too, sith some cool music playing!

I have to admit, though, that the Cinnamon Buns from the Tusker House are an awesome way to start your morning at the AK! Grab one of those and a cup of coffee or juice and sit out on the patio watching all the crazed parents outracing their cranky 4-year olds trying to find the way to the Safari!

Ah... the running of the suburban herd. Quite a site to see.

How is this even close?!

I can honestly saw I'm shocked. Though I have eaten at both dozens of times and really enjoy both, Flame Tree had always seemed far superior to me. Then again, some days it's nice to sit by the bar in Africa and listen to music.
