Trip Report Tu in ‘25

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tu in ‘25

These lyrics came to mind when I thought about my trip reporting. (I also thought, Here we go AGAIN but the above sounds much more poignant.) It’s now that time of year when my Disney trips are frequent. And this Disney Senior loves sharing her visits with y’all because your engagement makes it fun!

Yes, there will be stuff that’s the same. Yes, there will be surprises (too soon for the reveals). And yes, there will be sun rises!

Spring break countdown is at 4 days.

Since this intro needs a picture, here are Tu.

Em requested non-fried food for dinner. We scoured the app for menus and landed here.

IMG_7953.jpeg

I went inside to order while she found a table.

IMG_7806.jpeg

Turkey with lettuce and tomato on a ciabatta roll was a perfect choice for her sensitive stomach. Each sandwich came with a side of homemade chips, which we did not expect and Em did not eat. I nibbled on a few and the trash can got the rest.

IMG_7807.jpeg

We exited Disneyland once we were finished and returned to our room. Sulley Pig was propped up and waiting for Em.

IMG_7808.jpeg

Instead of chocolates, tonight’s turndown service offered “Sleep Rollerballs” of essential oils.

While I have yet to try mine, Em said she’s found the scent soothing as she eases into sleep.

Ooh, I still have one of those sleep.aids that I got at a Westin a few years ago, though mine says to apply to temples. Highly recommend.

I love essential oil roll-ons which really have such a soothing scent to fall asleep easier. My favorite is a lavender scent!
This rollerball is a fusion of grapeseed oil, lavender, sage, mandarin, sweet marjoram and chamomile. I just rolled it on my wrist and decided it has too much going on for my taste! (I also can fall asleep within 30 seconds so I might not benefit from this product anyway. :joyfull:)

That is a lot going on. Mine is just lavender, I'm pretty sure.

I'd give anything to fall asleep quickly. My sweetie has that ability, but he also snores like a cement mixer.

By no means were we in for the night. We had returned to our room to pick up our light jackets. Unlike central Florida, summer temps drop down in the evenings in SoCal and it gets cool.

Where were we going?

IMG_7811.jpeg

Back to where our day had started! Em had scored us a virtual queue at the noon drop for the earlier showing of World of Color, DCA’s water fountains/projections nighttime spectacular. The VQ allowed us into a preferred viewing area. We arrived about an hour early for the 9 pm show.

IMG_7812.jpeg

IMG_7813.jpeg

We remained seated until darkness fell, when a CM announced everyone needed to stand. There were only a few late arrivals, and all in our section (who wanted to) could have continued sitting as there was plenty of room.

The preshow?/introduction? began about ten minutes prior to showtime. It was unexpected and at first we thought WOC was starting early, since the technology/elements in use were the same.

In retrospect, I enjoyed the intro more than the show itself. Why?

In a word — MUPPETS!!❤️❤️❤️

Beginning with Sam Eagle.

IMG_7818.jpeg

And the Electric Mayhem.

IMG_7819.jpeg

I put my cell camera away at this point because I wanted to be in the moment as I watched the entire Muppet gang take part in a fun song-and-dance number which was the safety spiel! :hilarious: This was such a special surprise for me, having recently mourned the loss of Muppet-Vision 3D.

Per Disney, the new World of Color Happiness “explores happy through a kaleidoscope of emotions. Hosted by Joy and the other emotions from Inside Out 2, this special journey travels to the core of happy with a brilliant array of fountains, dynamic lighting, colorful lasers, fog and dramatic effects. The emotions come to life through musical moments from favorite Disney and Pixar movies.”

I noted Turning Red, The Incredibles, Wish, Tangled, Moana, Encanto, and A Goofy Movie.

When Powerline’s I2I played, the millennial crowd went wild!!!

Our only criticism of this unique entertainment is at 25 minutes, World of Color is too long. Especially after standing in a stationary position for an hour.

In 2013, Em and I watched WOC in person once. We found we enjoyed watching the show more from our 9th floor room at Paradise (now Pixar) Pier Hotel, with the soundtrack synched on the TV.

I just watched World of Color last night, from the dessert party section…with a seat. The desserts are just ok but having a seat and watching the show with a beverage is the only way I watch WOC now. I also enjoyed the Muppets preshow/safety announcements.

My husband is like that, too. I toss and turn for a couple of hours before falling asleep. His head hits the pillow and he's OUT.

I've never tried the essential oils, but I can't stand the smell of lavender, which most sleep aid stuff uses. My MIL used a bathroom spray that was lavender scented, and since then, lavender just smells like poo to me.

I’ve said it before and I'll say it again - for us, the convenience of staying at the Grand Californian was sooo worth the $$. We left the WOC viewing area, stopped to take a picture of this guy along the way....

IMG_7825.jpeg

....and were in our room in less than 10 minutes.

IMG_7826.jpeg

Just in time to open the drapes and see this....

IMG_7828.jpeg

So we stepped out onto the balcony to watch the rest of DL's fireworks show!

IMG_7834.jpeg

What a wonderful day we'd had! Twelve attractions in two parks, utilizing one LLSP and nine LLs! Shopping, exploring, eating and a much-needed nap. Two nighttime shows. A hearty 20k step count.

Neither of us had difficulty falling asleep which was a good thing - another early morning awaited us!

There won't be any fireworks or FANTASMIC! on the three days in August that we'll be in the parks. We do have reservations for the World of Color Dessert Party, though (thanks to @ajrwdwgirl!)! A Disney trip with no fireworks just doesn't seem right, somehow.
When you are there just pretend the fireworks were cancelled for wind. It happens frequently in Disneyland. Enjoy the dessert party.

Thursday, July 10

We had a better night’s sleep than the previous night, but still awakened at the crack of dawn.

Early entry this morning was at Disneyland and we were queued up at security at 7:10 am.

IMG_7837.jpeg

Screening moved swiftly and we were outside the DL gate a few minutes later. Lines were long and I was surprised that guests were not being admitted yet, since early entry started at 7:30.

IMG_7840.jpeg

To enter either park, a guest scans their ticket under a black tablet (middle). If it’s a first visit, the tablet will take their photograph. On a repeat visit, the screen will display the photograph which a CM verifies belongs to the entering guest. Only then will the plexiglass gate open.

IMG_7841.jpeg

While this may sound tedious, it is just as fast as the tap-and-finger-scan method at WDW.

And we’re in!

IMG_8494.jpeg

Oops, wrong photo!

Better.

IMG_7843.jpeg

We had to show our room key card to get past this point.

IMG_7844.jpeg

While waiting we watched a west coast goose strut around like he owned the place….

IMG_7845.jpeg

….while another was taking food from the hungry teens. (Credit to @radiorae for the teen term!)

Similar to MK, only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are open for early entry. None of the Fantasyland attractions offer LL (due to limited queue size) so Em and I wanted to hit as many of them as we could during the morning.

My favorite DL dark ride had to be first.

IMG_7848.jpeg

IMG_7849.jpeg

Note the tiny, narrow queue.

IMG_7850.jpeg

The outdoor portion of the ride is so cool!

IMG_7915.jpeg

IMG_7853.jpeg

Woody thought so too! (He’s in back, holding the video camera.)

IMG_8495.jpeg

The load zone.

IMG_7854.jpeg

Ready to go!

Oops, wrong photo again.
