The AA looks great, IMO. (Don Rickles doesn't look too bad either.)

At first, I wasn't really feeling this ride. It just sounded like Buzz to me. Don't get my wrong, I LOVE Buzz, but it just seemed unoriginal and uninspired. But now as the soft openings approach, I am PUMPED!!!

The caption to the pic says:

The Associated Press said:
This image provided by Walt Disney Imagineering shows comedian Don Rickles posing with his Toy Story alter ego, Mr. Potato Head, at Walt Disney Imagineering in Los Angeles, Feb. 23, 2008. Disney Imagineers have created a sophisticated Audio-Animatronics figure featuring the voice of Rickles for Toy Story Mania!; an interactive ride-through attraction that combines 3-D technology and interaction with favorite Disney-Pixar stars. The new attraction is scheduled to open later in 2008 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California (AP Photo/Paul Hiffmeyer, © Walt Disney Imagineering)

It looks awesome but it's much smaller than I had invisioned it. I can't wait to see it in action, especially since Don Rickles reprised his role as Mr. Potato Head's voice.

It's probably scaled to the size that you are shrunken to Woody's height and size. So compare Mr. Potato Head to Woody in the movie and place you as tall as Woody.

It also looks as if the eyes are projected. Is that correct?

The cloth covering on the arms is a clue to their movement. I think it's cool that the AA takes its ear off and then puts it back on. And no one can heckle like Don Rickles. This is going to be great!

Wait, isn't the Potato Head supposed to be a Living Character, like the Muppet Mobile Lab, Lucky and Crush?

If it is, then they'd be using a Don Rickles sound-alike, right?

If I remember correctly, he recorded a large number of sound clips that can be played in various ways.

Good point. If Don is indeed doing the voice over work then does that mean the AA isn't as interactive as we originally thought?

is almost a Living Character with preprogram cues. Is like 2,000 phrases and safety spiels.

Don Rickles recorded a lot for this, it won't be as interactive as lets say Mike in Monsters inc. Laughing Floor. But it will have interaction with guest.

Think as a HUGE Pal Mickey, LOL.

From the New York Times article:
The comedian Don Rickles, whose gravelly voice brought the character to life in the films, was hired to record 750 words and four songs. The hidden ride operator, armed with a computer and cameras that scan the crowd, will then choose phrases based on the actions and appearance of people standing in front of it. (''Hey, you in the red baseball hat.'')

Whoever commented about the eyes, I believe they are similar to Buzz's face being projected on like the AA in Buzz Lightyear Ranger Spin. Don't quite remember, so I could be wrong.

It is kinda shaping into being another version of Buzz. Buzz has an AA, TSM has an AA, both or toy story inspired. Im excited about this moreso than I have been in awhile, but I just see it as differently themed Buzz attraction.

He won't be a living character like the Muppet Mobile Lab is, however he will be similar to the Roz Animatronic they have the Monster's Inc attraction at Disney's California Adventure, I went on that ride twice and everytime Roz said something different, to the effect of "nice ears, are they real?", and "if I had known I was being filmed I would have worn make-up". So it's definetly very interactive, though pre-recorded and a very cool thing to experience for the first time. I can't wait to see Mr. Potato Head in action!

Oh lord, Rickles recorded audio?

Great... I have long hair, a goatee and a fondness for band shirts. I guess I'm not getting on this one without being razzed in the queue.

At least my shy companion can use me as a human shield.
