Commerical director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct "Tron," described as "the next chapter" of Disney's 1982 cult classic. Sean Bailey is producing via the Live Planet banner, as is Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film.

Kosinski, who last month signed on to helm the remake of "Logan's Run" for Warner Bros. Pictures, will oversee the visual development of the project and have input on the script, which is being written by "Lost" scribes Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Story details are being kept secret.

i loved tron and it was great that Disney put a tron level in their kingdom hearts 2 game! I'd love to see a sequel and seeing the people on board, it looks to be a pretty good sequel...I'd love to see an e-ticket riding around in the red bikes!

the episode where south park had a deity show up and look like the enemy from Tron was a great geek joke ")

Tron was cool, but I'm sure they'll screw it up in a sequal. This generation with it's PS3, Wii, etc will not believe the story. I think a better choice would be to remake The Balck Hole. That was Disney wasn't it?

Now a Tron E ticket could work well, but they won't make the movie based on the 80's style computer game work without totally changing from the original concept.

I never saw Tron, but wasn't it somewhat similar to The Matrix in concept? I expect the new Tron to look more like The Matrix than the original Tron. And yes, I think there is probably a Blue Sky concept for an E ticket IMHO:cool:

Tron may not have been a huge hit when it was first released, but it has achieved cult status among my age group (we were pre-teens when it came out). It was also a hugely propular video game when mall arcades were the weekend activity of choice for the not yet able to drive set. A well crafted sequal/rethink could be very successful, especially if they honor the original at the same time creating a modern take and making it accessible to those not familiar with the original. As to the poster who suggested a remake of The Black Hole, I wholeheartedly agree that is an idea whose time should come soon...though significantly reworked since we know ALOT more about them scientifically than we did back then. I just hope they would keep VINCENT and Old BOB in some fashion!

Rides from either of these properties would be welcome by me in Tomorrowland, Futureworld or DHS!

It was similiar but not really if that makes senes. The writers of tron didn't have gender changes after the movie...

...I'm sorry??

Anyway. NO REMAKES. Have you people not seen enough butchered remakes lately to learn that nothing good comes from them?
The Black Hole is wonderful just as it is, silly ending and all. They could -never- capture that eerie art direction again.
And Tron is still quite popular. Although... they already tried to make Tron 2.0 once already, and it ended up as a video game... which was pretty good actually.

No, not really. It was about a game programmer who got zapped into a mainframe somehow (via a laser that looked pretty darned cool). In the world of the computer, lesser applications (ie a lowly spreadsheet program) are being destroyed by the master control program in these crazy computer games. "Users" are legendary diety figures. Our hero has to assist a program called TRON which is the only hope for taking down the master control program. I think I have all the details right. Nothing like the matrix, unless you count the person in a computer world thing. Jeff Bridges actually physically goes INTO the computer though, and isn't plugged in the way what's his face is.

Lunarsquid: He was talking about the Wachowski brothers, one of whom had a certain operation. Now it's the wachowski siblings, and not necessary brothers, if you catch my drift.

Tron was a cult hit. That means a small group of people found it enjoyable. I am one of those people. I will also be one of the first here to admit that no, it was not a good film. There were a lot of things about it that could have been improved. But they already have been - i'm not sure how many people here actually sat down to play TRON 2.0, but I thought it was amazingly well done and really expanded on the TRON concept very well (I love the little thing that bids you "Have a nice micro-cycle!") My OPINION is that you can't possibly "ruin" a movie that was bad to begin with (even though myself and others love it despite the overall badness). Remember, these are my opinions and not written from the perspective of a Tron fanatic like this guy: http://www.geekitude.com/Pictures/Linucon2004/Ex45TronUpCloseRot.jpg
So don't blame me if you disagree. :D

OK. So take current video games tech (like the one where you sit on a motorcycle), current sim technology (like Star Tours) and the tech from M:S - throw it in a blender and create the Ultimate Lightcycle Adventure. Tell me that wouldn't be a hit.

I guess I can see how Jeff Bridges physically went into the computer if it was a very big computer but how did they fit the motorcycles in there and still have room to race around. Sounds just like the Matrix to me:lookaroun
