Tron Attraction?

hey why not of instead turning WOL into a single tron attraction make it a whole tron pavilion. you make it the game grid. put the old tron games in, turn body wars in to a light cycle ride going through the story line of the original tron movie, turn cranium command into a tour through the game grid...you make everything tronified. :D

That would be sweet. Body wars could be a modified tank from the first movie or the lightcycle ATV from the Legacy trailer. They'd need to change the original vehicle's exterior to look more Tron-ish. I don't see the Cranium Command working(the idea does but the deconstruction of the face would cost quite a bit.

This could work with a cyberspace themed pavillion...

Also, everyone is discounting the fact that Disney is making many more sequels than they used to...If Tron Legacy does well, we will most certainly see more of them with the new cast...

Also...we already have a Tron Attraction...it's called the Tronorail!!

Yes i agree this is the age of sequels and trilogies......I would say if this Tron movie does well then an attraction/squeal would be a very good idea

I would be more surprised if it didn't happen.

Someone else listed the reasons Disney wouldn't do this... allow me to explain why they would. Disney is in a franchise-focused phase right now; they want to find and establish a workable franchise from anything successful they can, and implement it across every variety of media they have - TV, movies, theme parks, merchandise, you name it. Disney has done this before with names like Pirates, Toy Story, and Princesses, which have brought us such crossovers as the Jack Sparrow layover of POTC, Toy Story Midway Mania, and the Fantasyland Expansion. I think Disney is putting all their chips on Tron to be their next franchise, by spending (from what I've heard) nearly $300 million on this movie, and advertising it across nearly every form of media they have (the Tronorail comes to mind). And if the buzz I've been hearing from movie previews and non-Disney-fan friends talking about the movie are any indication, it sounds like Disney may well get their way. And if it does, not only can you expect the Tron movie to be expanded into a trilogy, you can expect a major theme park presence, too. Box office can be a kiss of life or death to an attraction.

Here's some more reasons why I think so. Disneyland's Tomorrowland is under scrutiny for a major renovation, and word has it that Imagineer Tony Baxter (a major Tron fan) is eying the plot of their Innoventions to be the site of Light Cycle-themed dark ride/roller coaster. It sounds like Disney may approve this ride in the next few years as a means of increasing capacity, and if it does, it's safe to bet clone-happy Disney will be more than ready to bring this over to WDW, as well.

As for location, don't think that the Imagineers aren't well aware that MK's Tomorrowland is a thematic mess, or that Stitch's Great Escape sucks, and so on. I could easily see WDI putting a Light Cycle ride in the place of Stitch, or in the sizable plot of land next to Space Mountain.

At any rate, I certainly wouldn't write it off as an possibility. In fact, I embrace it as one.

Stitch is prime for replacement, if anyone over there would admit the failure. It is easily one of the worst attractions on property. And the quick failure of the Stitch sow should prove that his time is up.

Tron would fit well in the current Tomorrowland theme, if the new film stays at all true to the original.

I'm lousy at predicting success or failure at the box office. But Tron Legacy doesn't smell like a big winner to me. I think it will do okay. But I don't expect it to be a sensation. I'm not sure it will warrant sequels. Disney seems pretty confident. But they are worse at predicting success or failure than I am.

Honestly I would like to see WDW stop with all these movie based rides. I think it is a cheap way out. When you ride an attraction based on a move, you cannot help but overlay the effect of the attraction with that of the move, for good or for bad.

What ever happend to creating an attraction based on it's own story. Look at how great EE is (Engineering issues not withstanding).

CoP, Small World, Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road, Mission Space, Pirates of the Carribbean, Jungle Cruise, the Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion, the original EPCOT attractions - none of these were based on movies. Some drew inspiration, but none were a direct shoehorn of a scene in the movie.

TSMM is a great attraction, and lots of fun, but that could have been themed and stories in half a dozen other original ways. Yes, it is in DHS, so on that token it gets a pass (attractions in that park should be movie themed IMHO) but you could take that ride concept and re-theme it and make it work in any number of areas. It doesn't have to be an other Buzz Lightyear, but just how about a space shooter with its own backstory? What ever happend to attractions having their own backstory, and not one poached from a movie?

OK, thats enough ranting for this morning. Time to go find some coffee.

Agreed but just because it is original doesn't mean it will always be goo take Superstar Limo at DCA which is Now MI Mike and Sulley to the Rescue.

CoP is a jewel at MK. Don't get rid of it.

I think a Tron attraction would be great in TL. Maybe it can replace that disaster of an attraction called Stitch.

Tron deserves an attraction. It's a classic film that is still a benchmark for computer animation. Tron Legacy looks to bring the franchise from cult followed to blockbuster smash hit. They already greenlighted a sequel for Tron Legacy... That says a lot...

In terms of an attraction, I'd say a high speed lightcycle ride would be the best. In terms of where to put it, that's the million dollar question. Tomorrowland could work quite well if some fairly heavy work is done. I'd say the likely moves here would be to either demolish the speedway (my top choice) and build the Tron E-Ticket on top of that land or (the less popular choice) remove CoP to be relocated to DCA, then turn that area as well as the former Tomorrowland Theater area into the new ride.

DHS would also fit quite well since it's a movie themed park. The big question is where you'd put it, especially since there really isn't much open room without demolishing another attraction or putting it where the M:I coaster is suppose to go. One option would be to replace the Great Movie Ride, but I doubt Tron would be quite big enough of an attraction, or a property, to replace the iconic, yet outdated, ride.

To be quite honest I think Epcot is a pretty likely option. Wonders of Life is a great spot for a Cyberspace themed pavilion and Microsoft could come in as a great sponsor choice. The E-ticket attraction would be a Tron lightcycle based ride featuring tons of awesome special effects and visuals as well as high speed turns and maneuvers. After the ride, you would enter Flynn's Workshop where you could learn all about how computers work and what they do to better our lives. It would require the demolition of WoL and a complete rebuild, but if done right this could be the next big thing that Epcot really needs.

So yeah, that's my take on building a Tron ride.

There would be a huge conflict of interest what with Disney's relationship with Apple.

2. There's no real space in Tomorrowland. The only rides I can feasibly see TDO getting rid of would be Buzz Lightyear, or Indy Speedway, all the other spaces are being used by reasonably popular attractions or spaces too small for anything more then they have now.

How am I the only one to comment on removing Buzz? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Buzz in the top three in attendance in the MK? Even with TSM, it basically remains as popular as ever.

As far as longevity is concerned with the new Tron movie, Disney is already rumored to be working on a sequel or potentially a trilogy for Legacy. I realize it is a rumor, but in the remake/reboot/sequelize world that we live in, if this film does even moderately well, we all know it will happen. This is a sequel to a film almost thirty years after the fact. They will capitalize on it immediately this time.

And yes, the Tomorrowland Arcade will become Flynn's Arcade. That is just too simple to pass up.
