Congrats to Logan. And small world - spent my weekend volunteering at my city’s triathlon but the weather was not the same - much respect for the participants who stuck it out in 90+ degree weather to finish (on top of my already existing respect for triathletes in general - I run but I don‘t think I have what it takes to run after swimming and biking). Today’s event was half Ironman distance (but not Ironman branded). Yesterday they had Olympic, short and discovery distances.

Yep, I can't even imagine trying one, let alone finishing one, especially in adverse weather conditions! The nice thing about the rain today was that it really cooled it down! Normally it would be 80+ degrees here as well. Logan signed up for the sprint one today which is 750m swim, 22km bike, and 5k run. In the past he has done the Olympic distance one. Everyone ended up having to do the sprint one today due to the delay and the incoming storms.

I decided to go back to look at finishing times of today’s race compared to last year‘s (which was cold and rainy). It just so happens that the same 2 men finished top two last year and this year, and that both of them took an additional 35+ mins to finish this year. There was also a different bike route which may have accounted for some of this difference as well.

Sorry to hear your trip has had it's ups and downs, but glad everyone is okay! I'm beginning to think Yellowstone is cursed! As you already know, we were affected by the closure from all the flooding. That combined with the fact that our trip had been rescheduled once due to covid already had us joking that it was cursed. Then, on the way home we were in a car accident and totaled our car (everyone was okay, thank goodness!).
All this to say, stay safe and enjoy the rest of your trip. I hope the rest is as uneventful and boring as you wish!
I went there as a kid a few times and never had any issues. I DO think I'm a wildlife jinx, though. AK is always a disaster for us and my son won't even set foot there. But so far this trip, we've seen only a handful of animals. Yesterday was our first day in Yellowstone....we saw some deer, 2 bison, and an unidentified mama and fawn of some creature that looked too big and too dark to be a deer, but didn't look like a moose, and I don't know what female elk are called. But that's it. We asked where the best place is to find bighorn sheep, but apparently that's on the road to Gardiner, which is closed. We drove up to Tower Falls where it's all rocky, but couldn't find any. The search continues.

We saw a couple big horn sheep and a mama grizzly and her cub on a hillside the morning we were leaving (at the West entrance/exit). We saw the biggest concentration of bison in Hayden Valley as we were doing the loop in the late afternoon/evening. Good luck on your continued wildlife search!

If your husband loves the location of the yacht club but you want to stay somewhere new try beach club or boardwalk. Both are great locations.
After much discussion, we booked Yacht again!
So my son has a severe dust mite allergy and we try to avoid hotel rooms that have carpet when we can because I don't want to risk him getting sick. Otherwise, those would have been our top choices. I am hoping with the upcoming Boardwalk reno they will do away with carpet like they are doing at the other resorts.

We are fine, the car is fine. We have no injuries, just a bit traumatized, but we're ok. Spoilers because it could be triggering to anyone with a fear of heights or PTSD from car accidents.

WOW!!! This is always our fear driving all of these places we go road tripping. I'm so glad you guys are OK. It's actually helpful to me because we're considering this vehicle for one of the kids.

We found the bison today, I think in Hayden valley as well. And we found some Elk on our way out, just before the turn off to Cody. I was driving though, and my husband said he couldn't get pictures. When he's driving, he refuses to slow down so I can take pics of wildlife. All the jams to look at wildlife drive him nuts. He thinks it's ridiculous. So he wasn't going to have me pulling over to get pictures of the elk.

Glad you got to see more wildlife but the sad face was for not being able to stop for pictures.

I'm not even sure they were Elk....I had to keep my eyes on the road, because hello twisty windy roads. I could see large creatures that were too big to be deer and too small to be moose, but I couldn't really LOOK. So they may have been the bighorn sheep....I have no idea. I didn't see antlers/horns, so I don't know, and I'm not sure my husband was paying attention to WHAT they were and wouldn't try to take a picture because they were on my side. Oh well....we saw wildlife.

My guess is elk cow, since it was too big to be a deer. Either way, like you said, you saw wildlife. :)
