Trip Report Oct. 2-7

Hi everyone,

I had so much fun reading all the trip reports here before my vacation, I though it would be only fair to post one of my own.

This was my first trip back to Disney World since I went for the first time 15 years ago, so I was a little excited about this vacation! It all began 9 months ago when I suddenly had an urge to find information on the internet about my favorite ride, which I discovered was called Horizons, and as you all have known for a long time, is no longer in existence.

Well, I was sad to discover Horizons was gone, but looking for info on it reminded of all the great things that were still in WDW, and how much I wanted to go back. So I set out on an obsessive mission to convince someone, anyone I knew, that they wanted to go to Disney World with me.

Well I won't bore you with the details, but after many shamelessly salesman like gimmicks on my part I managed to convince my best friend, who had never been to WDW, that she just had to go. So finally after a lot of hard work planning, making reservations, and finding the best prices and deals I got my trip! Here it goes....

Finally, for today, I just loved this silly bird! He was suning himself along the path to "Tough to be a Bug".

Day 2: Night

Once we returned to our resort we both decided that a swim would be nice, so it was off to the quiet pool. Our room was really close to the Ranchos quiet pool which was great because it meant that we could sneak down to the pool quickly without making a huge trip. The pool itself was great, lots of palm trees and cacti. It was wonderful to float there as the sun began to lower in the sky. I have always loved the light in the evening before sunset and at our resort if was particularly beautiful at that time of night. It is interesting also that the pools at the Coronado Springs use bromine instead of chlorine, and thinking back it definitely did not smell as bad as pools usually do.

After a refreshing swim we made a mad dash to MGM for the Fantasmic. When I made my first trip to WDW at age ten, MGM had just opened but we spent so much time at the other parks that we barely had any time there. It was really funny because when we walked into MGM for the first time on this trip it was completely different from the way I had remembered it. Granted the giant hat at the end of the street didn't help. It was just interesting to see how it was so different from my original impression as a child. I liked it a lot better.

Anyway, after a mad picture taking frenzy ( I think if my friend and I go on another trip together I am going to find my cameras mysteriously lost or broken before we leave), we headed straight for the Fantasmic. It was pretty close to showtime and there was a huge crowd but we managed to get pretty good seats.

What a great show! It was fun to see all the characters, and pretty much everyone must get to see something from their favorite show. I love the projections on the water too.

After the crowd had thinned out we made our way back to the bus and headed for Downtown Disney. My friend loves 80's music and one of the clubs plays 80's on Thurs. so that was our destination. First though I was starving so we stopped a the Wolfgang Puck Cafe for some sushi. It was fabulous, I had the spicy tuna roll and it was Spicy!!! I could have used it later in the trip when I got sick because it definitely would have cleared my sinuses. It was excellent though!

Our last stop was PI. It looked like a lot of fun, we headed straight for 8-Tracs(I think that's the name?) for the 80's music. It was a neat little club with a brightly lit dance floor and a screen where the music videos where shown. We had a great time watching everyone dance, we were so tired at this point that we did not have the energy to join in.

I love to people watch so it was fun to just see how everyone was interacting. There was this one guy who was going around dancing with all the women, a little closer than perhaps some of them would have liked, but fate got him back. One of the women decided to latch on to him and he could not get rid of her, it looked like he made a thousand excuses but she kept pulling him back on the dance floor. Great fun to watch:D!

Finally we dragged our tired selves back to our room to go to bed, at a rather pathetically early hour for a pair of twentysomethings:) .

They didn't have chicken wire but there was a high wall and glass, you can see the reflections on the glass in my picture. I am not sure about above though, I would hope they did because we saw one man and his daughter throwing bread to some exhibited birds (they left before we could find a cast member, lucky for them because I was !, they were standing right next to the don't feed the animals sign) . I wouldn't want the bats eating anything they shouldn't!

I am glad you are enjoying the trip report:) ! Any questions anyone has feel free to ask!!

Day 3: Part 1

Okay day three, Epcot, yahhh!!! I was very excited to go to Epcot so I was up and ready within minutes of hearing Mickey's voice. My friend was a little slower so I went outside to wait and enjoy the beautiful view. I kept asking myself, how am I ever going to return to Massachusetts and the fast approaching yuck of late fall and winter. I want palm trees!

Finally we made it to the bus and we were off to Epcot! I was so excited about this day:sohappy: , I couldn't wait to see Future World, the World Showcase and eat at the restaurant that I had always remember from when I was here as a child, the San Angel Inn. We got in and the first thing I did was take a thousand pictures of the Epcot ball, the Epcot ball with my friend in front of it, the Epcot ball with me in front of it, from the left, from the right.....finally an evil glare from my friend dragged me away and straight onto Spaceship Earth.

Now I know alot of the old attractions are not the most sophisticated but I love them! (A moment of silence for Horizons please:( ). I think spaceship Earth is fabulous and tells the story of human history very well. I really just like being in this three dimensional world that tells a story and lets you imagine what it was like to be there. Its rides like these that I have always remembered from my childhood and that made me want to come back.

After our ride on SE, I wanted to the camera shop to see if I could get another disk for my digital camera. We went in and I found the disk I wanted, it was half the size of the one I currently had and cost $75:eek: . I looked a some of the smaller sizes and they were all really expensive. I had given up hope when this very nice CM came up to me and told me that I could take the disk I currently had over to the Imagination Pavilion and have it downloaded. This would only cost 11.99 for 40 pictures. I was thrilled!

So over to the Imagination pavilion we go, Epcot was so much larger than I remembered. I saw my plan to finish Epcot in a day, begin to fade away. When we arrived we discovered that it would take three hours to get my disk back so we decided to start on the other side of FW. Along the way we stopped for a drink at the great talking bubbler. As the water goes down the drain it shouts in a voice that sounds like its drowning, "Hey, what do I look like, a drinking fountain?" or something to that effect. It was really funny and unexpected. I imagine more than one person has spit water out when they were surprised by it. We also stopped to buy the Magic Moments pins that light up in specific locations around the park, they turned out to be a great purchase.

Our first stop was Test Track. I had been a little nervous about this one too, stupid motion sickness, but once again I was pleasantly surprised. There was barely any wait so we paused for a moment to take a picture of ourselves with a look of mock horror on our faces before we went in ( the pictures are really funny).

Test Track was so much fun ( I know I say that about everything but I mean it!:)). I did not even feel the slightest bit sick and I loved the end where you speed along the track. It was so much fun that we immediately got in line and went again!

After Test Track it was on to Wonders of Life. Here we spent way too much time playing with the senses games before we saw Cranium Command. That is a really funny show, such a creative interpretation of each part of the brain and body. Great fun!

When we came out of CC, I decided I was brave enough to try Body Wars. I had gotten these motion sickness pills that were naturopathic and would not make you sleepy and there was no way to find out if they worked except to put them to the test. Plus the ride only last 5min., I figured I could make it through five minutes.

It actually worked out pretty well. This is probably not my favorite ride at Disney but I only had to close my eyes for the last 30 secs. and I escaped with only a little dizziness and a very slight almost imperceptible nausea. Much better than expected!

On to the next pavilion, Universe of Energy. I though this show was really fun and more than I expected. I thought that you were stationary in the theater the entire time, so it was a great surprise to move through all the great audio-animitronics dinosaurs. As an environmentalist (not the fanatical kind) I enjoyed the message as well. Go Disney!:sohappy:

After EEA, I dragged my friend over to the future home of Mission: Space to take a few pictures. While we were there, we ran into a tour of some sort in which the CM was taking about the ride. That story is in the rumors section under Mission: Space, possible spoilers (an ambitious title that I tried to change later but was thwarted in my efforts)

Day 3: Part 2

At this point I start to get a little stressed as I realize that it was suddenly 1:00 and we only had 5 hours until dinner to finish FW and the WS. Ahhh:eek: !!! We walked really fast over to the Imagination Pavilion, and my disk was ready. I was thrilled because to download my disk and free up space for 230 pictures was only $35, compared to half that for $75 dollars. Thank you, thank you to the CM who directed me to this option!!

Next we saw Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Our pins started flashing in the preshow which was really fun. This was a great show even though I was once again not able to see much 3-D without my glasses, I imagine it would be fabulous if I could really see it! I did manage to experience the dog snot though!
After the show we went on Journey Into Your Imagination which was fun but I miss the old ride. I loved figment when I was a child and its just not the same.

Then it was on to The Land. Now I really, really love The Land, I think the greenhouse and hydroponics are great. When we got back from our trip when I was ten, I immediately asked my Mom, who is a librarian, to bring me home books on hydroponics and futuristic farming. When I heard that you could work at Disney in college I really wanted to work in that greenhouse. I know, I'm really weird. It was still fun and I would have loved to take the Behind the Seeds tour but the time pressure was starting to get to both of us (it was now 2:00) so we didn't.

We did realize though, that we had eaten pretty much nothing all day. What's the solution for that you ask? Chocolate covered brownies of course! Okay they had almost no nutritional value but they were sooo good:D !

Our last stop in FW was the Living Seas, where my only goal was to see the manatees. I really, really love manatees but I had never seen one, so I was very much hoping they would be there. This is the pavilion I would say is most in need of refurbishment, of course I live in MA with two very nice aquariums in the vicinity so I am a little biased. I was too busy jumping for joy at seeing the manatees (there were two there) to notice much else though. They were so cute, swimming around doing what manatees do best, eating. I have finally seen manatees, yahhh:sohappy: !!!

After we saw the manatees we headed out to make our way to the WS. On our way we stopped in Ice Station Cool. I had been looking forward to this ever since I first read about it, I love soda in all its various forms and I thought it would be really neat to try all the different flavors. We both loved the entrance in too, with the snow. It was as much fun as I thought it would be. I really liked the watermelon and apple sodas and I definitely agree with pretty much everyone else when I say, what are people in Italy thinking! Beverly was ick. I suppose though if I grew up drinking it though, I might think differently, to each his own. After drinking more than I should have (it was free and we had barely eaten all day) we headed off to the WS.

The WS report will come a little later, thanks for reading!

Leaf-

Just wondering...is there a specific reason you couldn't see the 3-D? I've always just put the 3-D glasses over my regular glasses no problem. Seems a shame to miss out on so much fun!
