Trip Questions For A Friend

Hello all! A friend of mine wants to plan a trip to Disney World in October when the crowds are low and potentially have the free dining plan deal. Any thoughts on when the best time would be in October?

Early October, way before Oct. 31. MNSSHP brings many people in on those days closer to Halloween.

We were there Oct 26-Nov 1 last year, we went to the MNSSHP on the 30th, crowds were great. We didn't wait longer than 10-15 minutes for rides, we were able to book great ADR's after the 180 day window, the weather was perfect and even the F&W festival wasn't too busy.

Crowds last week of October aren't too bad, with both MNSSHP and Food and Wine festival, it can get a bit busy on weekends, but not too bad. Early October is best, like @bethymouse stated. Still, weekends do get on the busy side in Epcot

No guarantee they will offer free dining at all, but I would think it will be early Oct if they do. We went the last week in Oct 2 years ago (left before Halloween) and the crowds and weather were great! I agree that early Oct would be the best as far as crowds go, and would give you the best chance for free dining. Depending on what type of resort they will be in, you can usually come out just as cheap overall if you get a decent room discount, so don't write it off if you don't get the free dining.

I don't know about free dining, but I prefer early October because there is a better chance it will be warm. It might be hot!

Late October, you never know what you're going to get. Hot, warm, cold...

We were there October 8-13, 2012. Crowds were low, the Epcot Food & Wine Festival was going on, and it was beautifully warm (unseasonably so -80's and humid every day). The only thing we had to watch out for in our planning was the Halloween Party every other night, which would shut down the MK early. (We'd either plan to visit another park that day, or park hop before it began).

Free dining (if it happens) usually is before Columbus Day.

Typically Free Dining has been offered during the month of Septmeber so the closer to the beginning of October that you can get, the better your chances would be, assuming the offer is made at all. That having been said in the past few years it has been extended into October and even November so there is certainly hope that it could happen again. Until it is officially announced though, nothing is guaranteed. Good luck!!! Marie
