In the first block it should read [COUNTDOWN=2014/06/28 insert time here, for example 9:00]

Take the comma out between the date and time (just leave as one space) and you should start counting down.

You need the time to be in hh:mm format, so add a 0 before the 9, and put your even between the two countdown tags.
The format has to be exactly like the one in my example in the first post.
