Trees Clearing

Hello...was at the Magic Kingdom on Saturday and notice a lot of trees cleared across the river next to the train. I don't know if this was part of the construction for the new Fantasy Land or not. It was strange because it was on the left side of the train track across the river. Anyone know?

I think I brought this up last month (I noticed it, just can't remember if I posted anything on it!!) - yes, there is a pretty big clearing! not sure if it is part of FLE or not...but it definitely is interesting!!!

They also levelled some trees across from the Pluto parking lot this week, you can see the tents pretty clearly from World Drive. And the bulldozers were literally sitting right behind the fence at Poohs playground today.

Where exactly is the tree-clearing taking place? I know you said left of the tracks, but is it close to the Toontown station? When you're on the train between Frontierland and Toontown, it can be hard to know exactly where you are once you pass the Rivers of America.

I think were talking about the same thing rereading the post, but the OP saw it from the train, I saw it from the street.

Is this where you saw them clearing trees?

They are making another vehicle entrance their for construction.

The trees (I believe) are being cleared for an expansion of the retention pond in Slipknot's post. The retention pond will be expanded southeastward and there will be an island in the middle. From my understanding this was necessary for the expansion to take place due to the hydrology of the surrounding area.

When I was on the train a couple of weeks ago, there was so much cleared that you could very clearly see the bus drop off and entrance to the tunnels on the right side.... It made me gasp!!

I think that are is simply a bit thin lately from fallen trees during the storms and hurricanes the past few years, plus the cold winter killing low vegetation in the woods. The trees between the train tracks north of Fantasyland and the bus stop at the entrance to the Utilidors shouldn't be touched, as there's nothing being built where those trees are. At most, there might be a few at the very edge of the backstage access road near the bus drop off to allow more vehicle traffic around that area.

As a horticulturist this could be a number of things but from what you guys are saying i would say they are clearing these trees either do to disease or they have an insect problem and they are trying to nip it in the butt before it becomes a big problem. If i knew what kinda trees i could come up with a better hypothesis.

This is an odd first post, I think you were sent by Disney to cover this up from the truth, the clearing of the trees is morse code for the beginning of free dining:drevil:

Well done sir. Do you happen to be in the civil/environmental field? I'm a civi/env engineer, so your terminology and thoughts were certainly anomalies from the typical disney fan! Nice work though, if they were expanding the pond then you hit the nail on the head...local regulations are tough to skirt when it comes to runoff/flooding etc.

I too noticed considerable clearing just east of the train tracks by Toontown station. There were also many yellow inflated tubes surrounding the water in the vicinity. Does anyone have any idea if the Fantasyland expansion will extend past the tracks to the east? Just curious. As said in an earlier thread it may just be being cleared for construction access.

There are actually two tree clearings taking place right now around the Magic Kingdom. The land opposite Pluto Park is being cleared and is pictured in post 6. Directly behind the tunnel, another area was being cleared. It used to house the doves and other buildings. The area directly above the text "Magic Kingdom Dr" and the buildings have been cleared.

"It used to house the doves"

What for? ? ? That sounds interesting!

Doves were used in the finale of some of the Castle Stage shows. It was cool to see them fly out around the castle and then disappear around the back. Then the raptors (birds, not dinosaurs) found out there was a quick meal to be had, and some of the dining was in view of guests. (Or maybe this should be moved to that other rumors thread.)

I hope the land clearing east of ToonTown does not expose and facilities or support areas. Seeing a new retention pond is fine. Its nature. I just don't want any of this expansion to expose and additional backstage areas. Hiding the back of the new FL expansion buildings will be hard enough to do from the back section of train tracks. Maybe that section of tracks will get some new AAs or dressed up scenery. This section of the park is very stale!
