I mentioned it in a thread about the DVD on another forum, but thought it was worth a mention here, too.

The new 2009 Vacation Planning DVD has a short segment on Bay Lake Tower and the Treehouses that includes new concept art that I hadn't seen before.

It refers to the Treehouses as "The Treehouses at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa", so that definitely answers the question about whether they'll be considered part of SSR or not.

The commentary also said that the Treehouses would sleep "up to 9". They didn't elaborate beyond that.

To find the preview, go to the "Deluxe Villa" listing under the Resorts section of the DVD.

There is a 2 page article in the current Disney Files magazine on them as well.

Some facts from the article

There will be 60 "treehouses"

It is called "Project Tarzan"

It is the fourth phase of Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Upgrades include a new pool, new cast building, and upgrades to the infrastructure

Plans are to open all sixty homes at the same time, in Summer 2009

They are three-bedroom two-bath villas, sleeping up to nine.

Two bedrooms with a queen bed in each, a pair of bunks in the third bedroom. A pull out queen sleeper in the living room, and a convertable sleeper chair in the living room

Wilderness inspired flooring, Tuscan bronze fixtures, rich woodwork, and materials are designed to compliment the tranquil forest setting

And the final comment of the article? - Everthing written here is subject to change.

As I see it the tree houses will be a form of compensation for those that have already purchased at SSR and been less than thrilled with it as well as frinedly nudge for those sitting on the fence about purchasing at SSR. It also gets Disney around those pesky ADR rules that had supposedly been a problem with the tree house villas in the past.

The article says some have ramps. I guess there are a lot of switchbacks on them

I do own in SSR (and I am happy with it) but just looking at the 3 Bed 2 Bath sleeps 9 , I am thinking that these are in the same point range as grand villas.

It's really not an option for a family to stay in, unless you are looking at a large family or a special event.

There would have to be. I ran some quick numbers back when the tree house villas were first announced and even at the maximum ramp slope of 1/16 you are looking at a 160' long ramp to raise 10' in elevation. Every switchback would add at least another 4'.

While they will be way up there in the point range and out of the wheelhouse for many of us normal folk to stay in on a yearly basis I think they will be insanely popular simply because they are unique. I predict that if you do not own at SSR your chances of getting a tree house villa will be remote. As a SSR owner you and your fellow SSR owners will have first crack at them which will make renting or trading your points quite easy.

nope. same point structure as a 2br, not a grand villa. It's on the point chart on the dvc website as such, so it's not just a rumor.
