Dry goods should be fine. Meats and fresh fruits/veggies are a no-no.

Check your airline's website for specific restrictions though.

Yes - cereals and good 'ole English tea is absolutely fine.

Fruit - by all means take some on the flight to eat BUT you can't take it into the USA and make sure that you leave carrier bags etc on the plane. We were stopped by a sniffer dog in Orlando that could smell the fruit we'd had in a rucksack on the aircraft !!

Tea from the South

Speaking of addicted to tea...

One of my coworkers has a box of coca tea in her office from a trip to Bolivia, so my guess is that regular tea and dry goods won't be a problem.

 We also have PG Tips at home I'm not sure where we even got it, but we definitely have a lot of it!

As others have said, tea and cereal should be no problem, unless the cereal is Meatie-O's or something like that. Then, there might be an issue.

Really really stupid question here, so my apologies in advance. Is Beef Jerky considered a "meat" when traveling outside of the country? I know we always take it on continental US flights, but, when we go to Cancun, is it a nono? I'd hate to have to scarf down 4 bags of Jack Links Sweet N Hot at security :ROFLOL:.

DD brought me a box of tea bags from Argentina this summer and had no problem. She also brought back some dulce de leche, and a jar of steak relish for her dad.

Whether or not you can take beef jerkey into Mexico depends on the regulations in the country. This is not an airport security issue, but a customs and agriculture one. In the US, as in many other countries, it is illegal to bring in meat products, but, again, you will need to check if that is the case in Mexico.
